Iron County residents will hear John W. Hyde and J B Carlos discuss a new community movement focusing on better town and city planning. A 1:00 p.m. meeting with local officials in Paragonah Parowan precedes a 2:00 p.m. public session at the Court House on Tuesday August 12.
Parowan West Ward members will hear an all family program next Sunday by Mr and Mrs Morris Rowley. East Ward Relief Society holds a work meeting on Tuesday August 12 to finish quilts with good attendance expected. Babies christened last Sunday include Lipa Sue Bess Randall Evans and Richard Scott, children of local families.
Utah veterans moving between schools this year should promptly secure VA admission and eligibility papers. Cedar City VA contact Rep. Coffey advises obtaining a standing statement from the last institution, sending it with a new admission letter, and coordinating with VA regional registration to transfer benefits under the GI Bill.
Bonnie Benson and Aldo Lovotti wed in a double ring ceremony July 29 1947 at the home of the bride's parents in Parowan. Bishop Jesse Guymon officiated in a small gathering. attendees included Cruella Chamberlain Katherine Bowen and best man Joe Benson. Reception followed at the Benson home. Continued on page five.
Zion National Park reports a rise in visitors with 11,342 cars in July 1946 and 15,897 in July 1947. Total people for both years were 38,065 and 53,761 respectively, reflecting Utah’s promotional impact as a national center for scientific America.
Parowan prepares for a first of its kind production combining play and pageantry to recount Brigham Young’s Utah life. Directed by Will Adams, the outdoor show at the five mile Camp uses a new 25 by 25 foot concrete stage with expanded seating as Iron County marks its Centennial. Weather may shift the outdoor date earlier if cold conditions persist.
Ida M Paxton was celebrated by her four daughters at a Sunday open house at her Parowan home from 2 to 5 PM. Relatives including J L Lowder and Mrs Emma Webb assisted guests as summer flowers decorated the rooms. A pink and white birthday cake graced the table and granddaughters served refreshments. Mrs Paxton’s family includes five living children, sixteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Virgil M. Decker 55 formerly of Parowan and resident of Manti for a decade died Sunday in a Salt Lake hospital from injuries from a head on collision south of Ephraim Thursday night. The crash occurred when a pickup driven by Cecil Hall and Joseph Young Jen swerved to avoid a truck and hit Decker's southbound car. Decker, a WWI veteran and former Legion commander, leaves a widow Edith Kjar and children Lee Boyd Curtis and Mrs. Carol Young, with several siblings listed. Continued on Page Five.
Emma L Webb is sent centennial birthday congrats from W K Granger dated July 24 1947 from Parowan Utah. Granger notes historic day events and the need to attend centennial celebrations while praising early pioneers who fled persecution to worship freely. He mentions delivering a House speech honoring the centennial and invites Webb to participate with Hazel sending best wishes for health and happiness.
