Missionary Suffering From Auto Accident

Elder Arnold Stevens of the L D S church mission field in Billings Montana sustained a broken arm and a badly sprained other arm in a recent auto crash. A Canadian trip returnee, he jumped clear as the truck swerved near overturning. He is recovering but remains in pain and inconvenience. Taylor Family Plans Chicago World Fair Trip

Mrs Ellen Taylor and her daughter Abn quarne from Fillmore returned home after a brief visit with Mrs Dorothy Melville. Mr and Mrs Taylor Parkinson will attend the World's Fair in Chicago this month. Thomas C Taylor went to Benjamin to tend the home while they are away. Eva Taylor will bring their child down to look after them.

Oklahoma horse and mule buyer visits for polo stock

Wiley Jones of Oklahoma and an associate were in town buying polo stock. They purchased stock from Jack Palton of Paragonah and Skarold Mitchell, with four from Cedar City. Prices were not disclosed except Mitchell’s horse at 189 dollars.

Schools To Commence September Eleventh

The district schools will start on September 11 following a regular August board meeting. Christmas break runs Dec 23 to Jan 3, with May 11 closing. Teaching staff approved including Orland Were and Cleane Passey for Parowan and A. 4. Hatch for Cedar Junior High. Board discussed an administration building, estimating costs between 5000 and 7500, or around 5000 per Leigh. Operational costs projected around 3650 for fuel light water janitor service and 700 per seat. Commercial subjects may be added at Parowan High if feasible. New janitors named for several schools. heating plant study authorized for Newcastle.

Win, BM. Lill Dalton was selected by county sheriff L R Fife for the deputy post to fill the vacancy from L J Adams resignation. The sheriff seeks Board of County Commissioners approval to designate Dalton as cashier at the courthouse. Adams left for Salt Lake City to become state highway patrolman.

Southern Utah Dairy Co Elects Same Board for Year

The stockholders reelected John H. Fendieton Amenzo Topham and George Stevens for terms, with John W. Bentley and Samuel Abbott on two year terms, forming the board for the coming year. No new nominees were offered, and the meeting noted improved finances, reduced obligations, and potential stock dividends. Abbott could not attend. Gentley presided. The board reported higher milk prices received by the local plant than rivals.

Tarowan and CCC-16 Divide Ball Game Honors

Parowan and the CCC-16 teams split a weekend series with two wins each. Saturday at Shich Creek camp Parowan won 7 to 1 in one game while CCC-16 took the other. Sunday CCC-16 defeated Parowan twice 9 to 5 and 7 to 4 in ten innings. Marsden pitched for Parowan with A. G. Ifatek batting.

Infant Drowns In Irrigation Ditch in City

Thirteen month old Bittle Chailen Ronald son of Mr and Mrs Fle er Mitchell drowned just above the division in the city irrigation ditch that runs the thoroughfare. His mother had briefly turned away to perform chores and the child slipped into the swift rock channel. Despite a long resuscitation attempt, he did not survive. Survived by parents a sister Marilyn and a brother Gilbert funeral held in East ward chapel with Bishop W L Adams in charge.

Canyon Road Survey Changes Signal Planned Construction

Engineers from the State highway department and the Bureau of Public Roads surveyed Four Canyon road plans this week with Douglas Larson overseeing cross-section work and potential contract construction. Jury Convicts Man On Perjury Charge

Legion plants grounds at monument to lawn

The American Legion group at Elpunds between the Library and Last Ward chapel prepared a semi circular tract for planting. Members with shovels and rakes finished leveling and removing trash and furrowed the area for irrigation. If successful the lawn will enhance the grounds with peas.
