Vital Measures Become Law In Special Session

In a Utah special session the legislature enacted key measures on liquor control and industrial recovery. The liquor package included a possible constitutional amendment and new election laws, while a 2 percent sales tax was approved to fund emergency programs and broaden the excise framework for beer and related goods.

City Salaries To Go Unchanged Next Term

City council at its August meeting decided salaries for city officials remain the same for the next two years. Mayor Decker noted changes must be made this month, but council favored no increases. The body deferred engineering action on a storage tank project until input from Salt Lake City engineers. The council also kept fines for speeders at a $3 minimum and reviewed crossing access for Bennett and Dalton. Minor matters and youth claims against the city were disposed of.

Legion Auxiliary Reorganizes Tuesday At Court House

Local chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet next Tuesday evening at 8 o clock in the courthouse to reorganize and elect delegates to the State convention. Current officers Roberta Rowley chairman LaPreal Ward first vice chairman Alberta Morris second vice chairman Verda Adams secretary treasurer Violet Clark historian and Fern Skougard sergeant at arms seek strong turnout to complete reorganization and elect new officers this month.

No Ram Bouillet Show Held This Year

Breeders cancel the Rambouillet Show as flock interest wanes and entries drop below needed numbers. Officers report insufficient exhibitors including Day Fatims Co and Pendictors to justify the event. A future show may be attempted before next shearing season. sheep sale dates shifted to September 12 to 14 from the usual late August slot.

Stockholders of Dairy Co to Meet Monday Evening

Stockholders of the Southern Utah Dairy Company will hold their annual meeting Monday evening August 7th at 8 30 o'clock in the courthouse to elect three board members and review the yearly report compiled by Perey Adams showing milk purchases 19635 78, total expenditures 27590, and a year end profit 1324 60 from dairy products plus 108 85 on groceries and 17 59 on feeds totaling 2000 31 with inventory on hand.

Brothers and sister honored by community social

Richard Heber Benson and Phoebe Madora Halterman, longtime community elders, were celebrated at a Monday birthday social by the local camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. The event at the recreation hall featured a program from the Denson family, lunch, and a grand march, with Benson turning 81 on July 17 and Halterman 81.

Prominent Citizen Gurr Dies After Long Community Service

William Itcher Gurr 78 longtime Tretehant resident and farmer died Tuesday from diabetes. Funeral held Thursday at East Ward chapel with Bishop Adams presiding. Survived by widow, three sons, a daughter, sister, 22 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Born in Sidney Australia 1855 he migrated with his family after a perilous voyage. The community honored his honesty charity and industrious spirt through a large service and floral tributes.

Deputy Sheriff Wins Highway Patrol Post Amid Eight Applicants

L J Adams was chosen by the State Road Commission and highway patrol head for a patrol job after interview with four Cedar City applicants all backed by the county Democratic committee. Adams will report next Monday with a week at the office and another at the checking station near the state line. The other Cedar City candidates were Biwhi Walker Claude Aladarlane and Loris Forter. Selection awaits sheriff approval and commission consent before Monday.

Meeting Notice From American Legion Coat No 20

A meeting of the American Legion Coat No 20 is set for August 7 at 8 o'clock in the library. Jurors Drawn For Coming Court Term

Thirty five jurors were drawn for the upcoming District Court term by Judge Cot. The list includes Pargwan Georgy Bentley Alphonso Lowe Jared J. Orton Chanpie Taylor Luella R. Adams Merton Richards Phillip Benson Nellie M. Clark Edgar M. Lowder and others from Cedar City Newcastle and surrounding areas. The key criminal case on the calendar is State vs Corlett charged with perjury. Civil cases have not demanded juries, and a continuation of the Corlett case could affect calling jurors.

Federal tax on city lights to be ended after Sept

City utilities and municipal plants faced a federal tax on light charges for months. A deputy collector advised the tax will be eliminated on September 1, and no further collections will be required. The city had previously paid tax amounts due for the period. Senator Welford Day returned from Salt Lake City after the legislature special session.

F F A Enjoys Trip to Yellowstone Park

The F F A summer outing planned for July visited Yellowstone area and nearby sites in Utah and Idaho. Members toured Old Faithful and Grand Teton, attended lectures on bears birds and ecosystems, and posed for photos at Lower Falls and Jenny Lake.
