Intensive preparations under way for Iron County fair
Intensive preparations are underway for the Iron County Fair and Race Meet set for August 20 to 21. A county appropriation of 293000 funds exposition costs including exhibits, races, and improvements at the race track and grounds. Committees oversee livestock, crafts, entertainment, and building arrangements at Robovillet barn and nearby CCC buildings east of town.

Five County Teachers Resign Ahead of School Year

Local Boy Completes Flying Course at Cedar
Donald N. Mitchell a 16 year old Parawah resident finished his flying course at Cedar City airport and made his first solo flight on July 26. He trained for about three and a half months accumulating sixteen hours in the air. Don is the son of Merrill Mitchell and is in 11th grade at Parowan High School.

County School And State Sets Tax Levies For 1945
The West Ward conference is postponed a week to Sunday August 19 with speakers Miss Anna Adames and Mrs. Edna Hatch plus special music. County levies include Lion Saint 23 mills, county school district 11.5 mills, Iron County 7.5 mills, state 4 mills. Cedar City down 40.28 mills from last year. Parowan City to set levy Saturday. Total county levy outside cities rises to 29 mills, state levy 4 mills, general fund up to 3.5 mills, with divisions for libraries, roads, welfare, and weed eradication. State tax sources from franchise and income taxes boost general fund. high school levy 0.2 mill for state high school fund, 1.5 for district school, 1.2 for state equalization. State valuation given at 670,375,159 with expected 2,801,831.05 revenue, 97% collection. County school levy set at 17.8 mills for general instruction and 2.6 for debt service.
