Newlyweds Adna Donald Wood and Joyce Marie Warner were honored at a West Ward Church reception on Thursday July 29. The ceremony earlier July 18 united them at the home of the bride’s grandparents with Bishop Karl Mitchell officiating. The couple and families hosted a reception in the Relief Society rooms with aqua crepe attire and red rose corsages as guests arrived.
Joseph Stevens Sr and Lucy Munford Stevens descendants gathered at Five-Mile Camp in Fjarowan Canyon for Utah pioneer reunion on July 24. About 90 relatives attended including five children of the original couple plus siblings Lydia Orton Edmund Joseph George of Parowan. Arnold Stevens elected president Emily Riding vice president and Pearl Russell treasurer-secretary.
Dorothy Knell, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Ward, visited with her grandmother in Parowan. Betty Schoppmann and son from Cedar City visited relatives here. John Pendletos’ new home near their current quarters nears completion. Clair Lowder and son Clinton left for Spokane Washington to visit family and aid Mr Lowder’s health. William R Stevens returned to Cowley Wyoming after a ten day Parowan stay, attending a family reunion and a wedding reception. Elder Bryce B Orton, on leave from the Canadian mission, returned to Trento Canada after a week home, having been treated for a nervous disorder. Paul Adams and family of Delta visited relatives in Parowan. Dell Rollins and baby from Van Nuys California were in town and dined with the Haycock family. Darrell Booth visited grandparents Walter Mitchell in Parowan. John S Brown of El Monte California vacationed with sisters and fished local streams. LaRee Lowder assisted Bert Felstead’s care after an operation. Martha Dalton hosted a visit from Alex Robb of Idaho Falls. Lieut Adienne Mickelson called from Frankfurt, Germany, briefly greeting family during a three minute transatlantic call. Claudell Empey and daughter visited Parowan relatives on Sunday.
Mrs. Cora White Parry 63 widow of Isaac W. Parry of Cedar City and Ogden died at her daughter and son in law Arnold Gurr’s home in Parowan. She suffered arthritic complications for years and lived as a helpless widow for the last decade. Born March 24 1885 in Salt Lake City she married Jeane W. Parry in 1905. Survived by five daughters Ramona Snow Maxine Dalton Joy Hodge Lois Taylor Jasmine Gurr and two brothers John N. White and Earl N. White. Funeral 3 p m in Cedar City Fourth Ward Chapel with burial in Cedar City Cemetery.
Varowan residents hear of road upgrades as State Road Gravel Crushing Plant moves to Parowan for oiling a three mile stretch beyond the current highway. Parowan Junior Chamber of Commerce schedules a September 3 and 4 rodeo with Ebb Davis Co from Las Vegas bringing top stock and cowhands for events like bronc riding calf roping and Brahma bull riding with 509 dollars in prize money. Proceeds fund local projects including Christmas lighting and activity programs. community support is urged.
Mr and Mrs Henry Heap learned Sunday of the death of their son in law James Kirkpatrick 45 of Burley Idaho. He died about 3 a m from a heart attack but was not discovered until several hours later.
The wedding of Etta Louise Warren to Ivan M. Matheson was held July 21 at the St. George Temple with President Harold S. Snow officiating. Attending were family, friends, and the couple’s mothers. A brief honeymoon followed a reception in Parowan and Enoch, with a later Parowan event July 26.
The Chamber of Commerce Five Mile lighting effort seeks immediate cash gifts to buy materials. Previous donors gave 2.50 to 10.00, with a list of supporters including Samuel Abbott Art Lowder Kent Mitchell Mert Mitchell and many others, urging continued generosity.
Three of the 1948 graduates from Parowan High School enlisted in the U S Navy after passing physicals in Salt Lake. The trio Jimmie Morris James Benson and Sherwin Taylor, sons of local families, will receive three years of training and schooling in the Navy.
