Preston Mitchell, senior at Parowan High, won four Utah state scholarships totaling 100 dollars for four years to study at the University of Utah. Named by faculty and county superintendent, he plans to pursue education teaching. Mitchell, editor of the school paper, majors in music and has been in the orchestra. He will begin college in September.

Former Paragonah Resident Honored At Dedication Ceremonies
Janet Adams, a Gold Star Mother of the Marines and former Paragonah resident, was honored at the Utah Meditation Chapel dedication in Salt Lake City's Memory Grove on Sunday July 25. She and her daughter Belle Fuherman, escorted by General Spaatz Governor Maw and Mayor Glade, entered first in tribute to the Marines. Adams is mother to Corporal Claude Davis Adams of the U S M C who died at Peleliu Island.

Frank Adams, four year old son of Mr and Mrs Bryce Adams, fractured his collar bone about two weeks ago and is improving. Mrs Preston L Peterson, wife of Dr Peterson, had a major operation at the County hospital and is convalescing at home. Mrs Bert Feldstead underwent an abdominal operation and is improving. Don Rollins had his appendix removed at the County Hospital. Mr R L Halterman returned home after a hospital stay for treatment and check-up following illness.

Newcomers Welcome a 9 Pound Boy at County Hospital
Newcomers Mr and Mrs Alma Evans celebrate the birth of their third child a 9 pound boy at County Hospital last Friday. Albert Stevens reports the arrival of his first grandchild a girl named Jacqueline born July 24 at LDS Hospital Salt Lake City to Hazen and Connie Stevens Lay. Mrs Stevens travels to Salt Lake City to assist in caregiving for a few days. All Chamber of Commerce members urged to attend the regular meeting next Monday at 8 p.m.

Vermilion Chamber Drives Lighting Project at Five Mile Camp
The Vermillion Chamber of Commerce outlines a drive to install electric lights at the Five Mile Camp. A committee led by Samuel J. Whitney with Jay Moore and Howard Ward has secured power from Parowan City and a permit from the Forest Service. The project aims to raise about 500 dollars for materials, with early donors contributing 2.50 to 10.00 each. Contributions can be sent to the Chamber secretary Marvin Graff or the Times Office. A Nelson Stayell Hollingshead reunion is set for August 8, 1948 at Parowan with food, music, games, dancing, and skating.

Last Rites For Cora W Mortensen In Salt Lake City
Funeral services were held for Cora Wimmer Mortensen in Salt Lake City with Bishop Paul Vanwagoner presiding.
