Parowan City Council fills appointive posts at special meeting
At a special Parowan City Council session on Monday night Elmer Green was named night watchman for the City Police. Kent Mitchell was chosen as Justice of the Peace and John B. Mitchell as cemetery caretaker. Other appointees came from applicant lists. no applicants were received for one vacancy. The council also approved purchasing a patrol car for excessive police use, to be equipped with two way radio and first aid gear.

End of School Visit at Parowan Elementary School

Mr and Mrs B Specht of Parowan welcomed a seven pound nine ounce son born in a Long Beach hospital on Wednesday morning by Caesarean section. The couple marks their fourteen years of marriage, with daughter Pamela two, as grandmother Mrs Wm Lowder waits at Parowan for the grandson's arrival home. Grandfather Lowder also notified.

Music festival moved to St George amid conflicts
Beaver County School Superintendent Pierce announced the region spring music festival would be held in St George again this year. Parowan relinquished hosting due to the Eleven Stake MIA Dance Festival and BYU invitational track meet causing travel and scheduling conflicts. Parowan hosts next year with Wilford Young coordinating preparations as more than a thousand students were expected.

Parowan move follows Cedar City fire loss
Mr and Mrs J Parry and their eight children relocated this week to the Gurr Farms in Parowan Valley after their Cedar City home was destroyed by fire Saturday noon. The seven room brick residence at 77 S 400 East suffered major damage with an attic ignition suspected. Firefighters and neighbors saved personal belongings as the roof collapsed. Estimated loss around 5000 dollars, partly insured. Mrs Parry is Gail Gurr, daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter H Gurr of the city.

Four cancer films to be shown at school auditorium
Four short films on cancer will be shown continuously from 2 to 3 p.m. at the school auditorium next Monday May 3. The event offers an instructional screening for students and local residents.
Forest Service To Start Annual Road Work
The Dixie National Forest begins its yearly road maintenance with two crews, led by Assistant Forest Supervisor Leland Heywood, covering Pine Valley areas and extending to Cottonwood Oak Grove Browse Aves Ranger Station. A second crew started April 26 in East Fork Widstoe Escalante Teasdale, maintaining 511 miles of forest development roads until fall closing.
