April term opens in Fifth Judicial District Court session

The April term of the Fifth Judicial District Court convened with a long calendar of criminal civil and probate cases. Judge Erickson presides with Judge Knox assisting. numerous attorneys attend as jurors are sworn in and proceedings begin including divorce rulings and citizenship grants.

School Doings Recap of Last Week at Parowan High

The week closed with a successful program by the music department under Mr. Durham and a high quality graduation event. Sixteen graduates received diplomas as Superintendent Lewis lauded community support and praised rotational training at Parowan High. Awards went to top debaters and athletes, with teachers mostly offered reemployment and plans for summer study by Mr. Pymm.

Teachers leave for summer. Bertha Flyn stays behind

Our town notes that out of town teachers have left for the season while Miss Bertha Flyn remains to oversee the Smith Hughes work. Mr Paramore returns from Southern California praising travel, mentioning San Bernardino Orange show and San Diego’s wartime building boom. Court visits include Dr Ernest Green and J David Leigh. moisture reports indicate .87 inch in the latest storm and about 2.12 inches for the month.

Adams Lyman wedding in St George temple

John R. Adams and Verda Lyman leave for St George to marry in the temple. Their families and many friends offer congratulations and best wishes for a healthy, happy life. The column also notes local arrivals departures and social visits from Parowan to Salt Lake City and nearby towns.

Temple Excursion from Parowan a Remarkable Success

A large Parowan group visited the St. George Temple with forty four women and four men leading the party. The Relief Society and ward officials praise Saint George hospitality, drive car teams, and report minimal costs about 1890 dollars total. No accidents, funds covered by donors, and the trip is seen as a model for future excursions. Joseph E. Richards attends court as a local note.

Scott Matheson Elected Student Body Prosecuting Attorney

University of Utah News Bureau reports Scott Matheson was elected prosecuting attorney of the student body at the annual student elections, winning 750 of 1262 votes. The pledge to Sigma Chi, law student status, and musical involvement are noted as signs of his popularity and leadership among state university students.

Murdock Academy to stage Nathan Hale drama

Murdock Academy Dramatic Club under Miss Hattie Bagley brings Nathan Hale to Parowan on Friday April 29 after successful out of town tryouts in Minersville Milford Beaver and Kanoshi. Obra Pearce stars as Nathan Hale with Althea Lund as Alice Adams and Ronald McGregor as Fitzroy in a strong amateur cast.

Local residents return from winter stays in Nevada and California

Mr. and Mrs. George Koest have returned to Caliante Nevada for spring work on their homestead in the West end of the valley. Mr. J K Paramore, after an extended stay in Southern California including time with Mr Culver in the Imperial Valley, is back home.
