Sophomore Sox Spree Planned by Class
Sophomore class schedules a big event for April 21 at 9 p.m. in Pyrowan High Gym with popcorn, donuts, confetti, noise makers, and paper hats. The dance, titled Sophomore Sox Spree with the theme Red Silk Stockings and Green Perfume, charges 75 cents per couple and 35 cents for extra ladies in gold dust. Prizes for originality and music by the Music Makers are promised as about 150 parents and teachers attend a panel on student progress in Parowan and Paragonah.

Iron County Commissioners Approve Livestock Patrol Support
The Iron County Commissioners approved funding and an equal partnership with Beaver County to place a deputy sheriff on patrol in livestock range districts for this summer. Arthur Nelson, the newly appointed Iron County Sheriff, led last season’s effort and is expected to repeat the arrangement if Beaver County agrees. The board also urged Southwestern Land and Water Development Corporation to assist in securing electric power development for Tron County.

Aged Paragonah Woman Dies at County Hospital
Mrs. Sarah Ann Hanks Barton, 77, died early Tuesday at Iron County Hospital after a period of age related illness. Born April 21, 1871 in Paragonah to George W. and Elizabeth Edwards Hanks, she married William Henry Barton on December 7, 1892 in Paragonah and the couple have lived here since.

Seminary Students Leave For Annual Week End Tour
Twenty five senior seminary students and instructors Alton Merrill and Mrs Merrill depart for a three day trip to northern Utah. The group will stop at American Fork Training School for a program and, in Salt Lake City, will dine and observe an open evening. Saturday includes visits to the Church Office Building to meet President George Albert Smith and to the State Capitol to meet Governor Lee.

East Ward Choir Receives Praise For Quick Cantata Prep
East Ward Choristers receive high praise as they prepare the new Cantata for a Saturday April 16 performance after only two rehearsals. Nineteen of fifty singers have special parts with many others ready to shine as soloists, while Mary Lyman earns thanks for reliability as accompanist.
Last Rites Held For Herbert S. Hyatt
Funeral services for Herbert S. Hyatt were held Saturday at the Parowan Wes Ward Chapel. Bishop W Leonard Evans led the service with songs, readings, and remarks by family. Grandsons served as pallbearers. thirty six of his forty four grandchildren attended along with many children.

Easter Cantata Presented By Parowan Stake Choir
Members of all wards in the Parowan Stake are invited to the Easter Cantata Christ Victorious performed by the Parowan Ward Choir in the chapel Saturday evening at p m. Roy E Nolte provides a new arrangement of the Easter story with a powerful world and beautiful melody. Ninety singers will feature solos duets and quartets. Fifty choir members have practiced since March 15 Mrs Mary Lyman is the second pianist.

The Parowan West Ward MIA officers and Scout masters hosted the Fathers and Sons Banquet on Monday evening. One hundred sixty people enjoyed chicken and lamb with trimmings, pie, and ice cream. Ticket sales raised 157.00 dollars as Marlo Topham led ceremonies including trumpet, two solos by Ver Taylor, and remarks by several leaders. Marvin Jones of Cedar City spoke as district scouting chairman.

Utah state county officers association members toured Parowan on Tuesday afternoon to discuss recent legislation from the last legislative session. Attendees included Association president W Andrus and officers from Juab Box Elder Salt Lake and Utah counties. Also present were Iron County officials and Parowan and Panguitah mayors. The group planned further meetings in Beaver St George and Washington County. Mr and Mrs OrIan Webb welcomed a baby boy, born March 11 at L D S Hospital Salt Lake City weighing 9 pounds 8 ounces.
