The Iron County School District Board of Education decided on April 4 to fund and support a full fledged high school in Patowan next year. A tuition plan for students beyond eighth grade will be set by two local board members and Principal R L Fenton to help finance the move, with public details to follow.
The Farm Bureau led drive clears a site at the school park for a children's play ground in Parowan. About 200 dollars of apparatus will be added with swings and teeters made locally. Funds come from the Farm Bureau F A N Club subscriptions and the City, with city council approving a 55 dollar appropriation to cover rest.
The Paragonah town board appointed Attorney Parcells as city attorney. Sunday after noon speakers included Sister Mary Marsden Bishop H L Adams and Wilford Day. Adams and Marsden spoke on Salt Lake City conference and religious principles while Day discussed philosophy. Chas R Fox was accepted as a Parowan ward member. H L Adams and H W Lunt met with Iron County officials about road funds for the Arrowhead Trail beyond Buckhorn, but funds were unavailable. Ruben Jones visited Parowan for dental work with Dr Smith.
The Gun and Rod Club hosted its annual party in the schoolhouse auditorium on Thursday night. Attendees praised the event as the season’s best, with deer head decor and a twelve-piece dance program themed as Open Season to Closed Season. Game Warden R. L. Fenton fined attendees over ten dollars for encores violating the pretend game laws.
Next Friday April 15 Arbor Day is observed as a legal holiday. Parowan citizens are urged to spend most of the day at the city cemetery to beautify it. The sexton cemetery committee and Ladies F A N Club will direct work. Bring shovels rakes grub hoes teams and wagons. Start around 8 o clock morning. Plant trees and shrubs in the afternoon. Ten month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs Bain Matheson died Sunday night after a short illness thought to stem from teething. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm with speakers and singers listed. Day Farms Company under Rep Wilford Day intends to plant over 300 acres of small grain this spring in Parowan valley. They may seed 100 acres to alfalfa and at least 50 acres to corn for silage, with hopes the Parowan irrigation from the Co op Valley project will cover the crops. Lamb production also looks strong this season despite no wool sales, and shearing has begun with fleeces ranging 15 to 22 pounds.
All Relief Society sisters joining the temple trip to St George should note the dates April 18 to April 20. The excursion costs nothing, lunch and quilts provided, transportation free.
