The city delays paving projects due to the absence of a market for improvement warrants. Officials planned to start sidewalk work but now must rely on contractors willing to handle warrants, raising costs and limiting local labor. The action will be deferred until the securities market improves.
Community mourns Albert H. Orton who died Monday night after months of cancer of the stomach. Survived by wife, four children, a brother and eight sisters. Also notes Mrs. Hendrickson's paralytic stroke and need for care, F A N Club invites to state events, and local births and staff movements.
A new drill test may prove coal exists in Parowan Canyon. Robert Halterman and D A Matheson, with R A Kirker, evaluate a site noting coal possibly 500 to 600 feet deep with vein thickness around four feet. If confirmed, a shaft would be sunk and production hoped for this fall for local supply and affordable pricing.
Parowan High School reports a busy period with annual day events on April 1 including senior and freshman whitewashing, dance preparations, and a completed track work by the Sophomores Juniors. The program featured prayers piano numbers and a swinging clubs demonstration, with plans for a Seymore Sites Company performance and an April 22 23 opera Bocaccio under Parowan High School direction. Local residents and parents are urged to attend, while community notices mention poultry talks by Edwin Brickett and visits by area families at the Orton and Tolton households.
Last Saturday under the F A N Club civics program Parowan grade school children led a cemetery cleanup. They raked and burned trash in a large tract, earning praise for starting a community beautification effort. Citizens are urged to support a mayoral designated cleanup day to extend the work.
All advertising and job work up to March 31 are due to the undersigned. Subscriptions payable to W. Warner Mitchell who took control of the Times April 1. Ben Davis of Beaver in town buying cattle at 5c per pound for cows and up to 6 1 4c for steers, noting market conditions. Dr E A Petty forms partnership with Drs McGregor and Fairbanks to establish a Beaver hospital with Petty heading the dental department.
The B AC Glee Club presented an entertaining program last night in Ward Chapel. The B AC quartet impressed, Bull Hunter sang Aunt Susie in a striking ne gro costume, and Ord Luke drew laughs as a little girl. Poor attendance blamed on severe weather. audience urged a return performance.
