The Alumni Club announces a banquet and dance set for April, inviting members to attend. Invitations mailed this week. reunion notes praise cooperation and social success, with Mitchell and Sarah Benson highlighted for organizing the event.
Parowan men Simon A. Matheson and O. W. Decker suffered similar serious injuries from back-step and porch falls on consecutive days. Both were confined to beds with Matheson weakened and Decker stiff from a large cut and blood loss. Both show slight improvement.
The Elizabeth Camp U.P. announces a meeting Monday at Jane B Richards. Hulala T. Orton will give a lesson titled The Journal of the Barner Prats. All ladies invited.
Rowley son of Mr and Mrs S Rowley Parowan named editor of Campus Missoon magazine to be published by Nu journalism fraternity at Brigham Young University. Raymond Wiltsey from Winslow assists as business manager. Wiltsey and Whitney among Parowan students in BYU campus music groups as the symphony tour Utah with concert May 7 at the University.
Parowan Junior Chamber of Commerce schedules a regular semi monthly meeting Monday April 7 at 8 PM in the Court Room Court House. Reports from committees will be given. The group seeks new members aged 21 to 38 and urges attendance to promote civic leadership and parliamentary training in the community.
Relief Society presidents announce a special work meeting for Tuesday April 15 at Avoth Parowan Wards replacing the Library Itssons. A pageant rehearsal will send many members to Cedar City while others stay for the work session. Dr H Wayne Driggs of B A C will speak at East Ward M I A Adult Pace Tuesday night. This is the last regular Mutual meeting of the year with broad inviting attendance. Continued on back page.
The Bank of Southern Utah and Branch Agricultural College at Cedar City joined F F A to award a $300 calf to Clair Robinson of the Parowan F F A Chapter for excellence in academics and chapter work. He will return the heifer to the club to be reissued to another eligible beef cattle student. The bank plans a dairy calf reward once food quality is secured, expanding the club’s chain project including swine, sheep, and beef.
Mrn Jane Adame Mitchell injured in a Thursday car truck collision on the southbound highway. She remains in serious condition at Tron County Hospital with burns and deep cuts, while J Harold Mitchell and another passenger suffer multiple injuries. Joan Mitchell escaped with a minor cut and returned home. William C Mitchell expects to leave hospital soon for minor wounds.
The Southern Utah Administrators Association hosted a Wednesday gathering at Parowan High School bringing together principals and superintendents from Millard Beaver Iron Washington and Kane counties. Dinner in the Home Economics Quarters was prepared by High School Home Economics classes under Mrs Alta Dulten Pratt. Cedar City president Bethers led the meeting focusing on school administration and extracurricular activities.
A missionary couple writes to Bishop Guymon describing early days in their assignment. They recount settling in, study, tracting and conversations with Presbyterians Baptists Church of God Methodist and about a dozen other denominations. They mention meeting one who prayed for them and note continuation on Page Four.
Frank Bryer Adams son of Mr and Mrs Bryer Adams rushed to County Hospital with appendicitis and underwent surgery. Master Jerry Ward released from Iron County Hospital after 17 days with a broken elbow. Shirley Rowley underwent appendectomy after admission to hospital. Mrs Mable Wilcon accompanied her father Edmund Stevens back to Parowan after winter visit. Stevens spent part of winter with daughter Mrs Lucy Riding. Halterman Dalton and Adrian Dalton families left for Flagstaff Arizona in Halterman s new car. Sue and Adrian return to school. Alma Decker and family delayed trip to Mesa due to flu epidemic. Kathleen hospitalized with pneumonia but all are better and home now.
Mrs Amelia Topham spent a week in Salt Lake City visiting her sons and relatives. Eulala Orton retired from Salt Lake City after helping care for her brother June's family. June and his wife welcomed their seventh son. Mrs R P Chrasley of Casper Wyoming visited daughter and son in law Gaylord Whitney. John Dodds and family hosted Mrs Crashley and returned home last Friday. Frankie Lou Burton Paul Orton and Grant Mortensen returned from B Y U Easter break to Parowan. Mrs Jack Dalton hosted a birthday party for daughter Caroline on Friday April 4. Aunt Jane Adams Mitchell birthday observed March 29 with friends calling.
A call to citizens across Utah to actively engage in addressing traffic safety outlines statewide conferences in Salt Lake City that gathered hundreds to form committees. The aim is concrete plans and broad community support to implement practical solutions and reduce crashes.
The Relief Society pageant The Mother of the Church will feature members from every Ward in Parowan Stake and be staged at the Cedar City First Ward Church on Sunday evening, April 20. It includes eight episodes tracing the society’s history with a chorus of over 100 mothers. Written and directed by Elaine Southwick and Kate Palmer, production management by Edna Sargent, and staging by Today City Wards. Each Ward prepares its part with two final rehearsals set for Tuesday the 15th and Saturday the 19th. Everyone is invited to attend this historic presentation.
The OG N O Club met Thursday night April 4 at Marguerite Orton home for sewing and visiting. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Parowan Literary Club met April 1 at Anna Lyman home with Maude Parcells in charge. Georgia Mitchell led Favorite Poetry lesson reading The Vision of Sir Launfal by James Russell Lowell. Special guests included Alice C Mitchell and Mrs Preston Petersen.
The Parewan Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly meeting at the County Courthouse. Ivan Decker announced Dixie Junior College will present a production here soon. Kent Mitchell noted a geology group and students from Brigham Young University will visit Parowan April 10 or 17 to study formations and artifacts at Parowan Gap. A committee of H. Adams, Thales Brown and Orkind Ward was named to oversee visitor arrangements. The group was asked to draft building regulation recommendations for future city projects.
The Mutual Improvement Association will hold the last lesson meetings in Parowan Wards near Tuesday April 5 bringing to a close an eventful and fruitful year of study and enjoyment. The closing social is scheduled for April 22 held jointly for both ward organizations.
Easter Sunday April 6 marked the third anniversary of John R. Robinson as relatives gathered at Lula R. Bastian in Paragonah. Attendees included Emma Yardly of Beaver and 35 family members, John R. Robinson Meeker of Colorado, Hyrum B. Robinson and family, Ray Stones and two relatives, Ellis R. Robinson and seven relatives, Lula R. Robinson and nineteen relatives, with Joseph M. Robinson absent.
