Parowan Cattle to be Tested Next Week

Parowan city cattle must undergo Bane's Blood test for contagious abortion next week. Four districts have specified test days with owners bringing cattle to the titling office corral by 9:38 AM for testing by Dr. A G Johnson and assistant George Rasmussen. Districts 2 3 4 cover west and east sections with tests Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Owners must bring their own cattle and sign papers. no children allowed.

Women Know More About Manners Than Men

Dean Austin of Reno Utah tells freshmen that women score higher on a social conduct test stressing courteous behavior. The test, given during orientation, showed women superior overall with men leading in some etiquette areas such as knife handling and table form.

Daughters of Pioneers TQ Meet April 9

The Elizabeth Camp Daughters of Utah Pioneers will hold their regular monthly meeting next Thursday April 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the Reller Society room of the Recreation hall. Prove residents plan two month prospecting trip and events

Mr R R Page of Prove arrived in Parowan on Thursday with Jimmie Benson to prospect the two towns East and South and expect to be away about two months. Several sheep shearers left for Newhouse to shear sheep for the coming weeks. The Kadyn Society announces its Good Friday cantata Darkness and Dawn to be directed by Sir Eccles and others praising the season’s best musical entertainment. A flurry of local births and home projects moves through Parowan while Amos Trolton and others visit before Albert’s mission. Weather notes report 1.3 inches in March, total 4.76 inches this year, with apricot blossoms late and frost damage.

Last Rites For East Ward Halterman Child Dance Supper

Funeral services were held for Dee Halterman five year old son of Mr and Mrs Clifton Halterman in West Ward chapel with Bishop I L Adams in charge. The program included prayers, songs, and tributes from family and friends, followed by a cemetery dedication by Joseph Ward. The community also hosted a Kensington evening and a ward social with a supper and dance attended by about one hundred fifty people.

Dust causes collision on Buckhorn Flat

A heavy windstorm yesterday caused a touring car from Iowa and a State Liquor Commission truck to collide head on at Mule Point between here and Beaver. The Iowa car was partly on the wrong side of the road and was moving toward the oncoming truck, which was headed north. Both vehicles were badly damaged and a woman in the Iowa car was taken to Beaver for medical aid.

Civic clubs decline join of new State Chamber

At Milford meeting the Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah refused to join the State Chamber of Commerce this year, citing an already set program and potential misalignment with new plans. President Frank G. Martines was invited to help form the state body, but directors opted to stay independent for now.

A telegram from Horace and Mrs Burton in Devore Arizona reports their youngest child died of scarlet fever. The message also says the other four children have the disease. The boy’s grandmother, Mrs Amelia B Lyman, was in Salt Lake City and may not reach the family. The Times offers condolences to the bereaved family.

Iron County District Court Opens Monday Afternoon

The regular April term of the District Court for Iron County convenes Monday afternoon at 2 o clock. The calendar mostly lists civil cases with little public interest. The sole criminal case is the State v Carl Fife, but its status for trial is uncertain. If not tried and no party requests a jury, the preselected jury will likely not be called.

High School Day at B. A. C. Saturday in April

About 1500 students from fifteen schools expected for the annual Mass Morale High School Day now paired with the Southern Division Music Festival. Judges from Utah State Agricultural College and Brigham Young University will attend. A parade with ten bands will highlight the event, beginning around four o’clock on Main Street. Contests span music, drama, stock and poultry judging, crafts, and literary entries with multiple age groups and classifications across band and vocal ensembles, solo performances, and orchestra sections. The day includes a full schedule of competitions from nine to four with a focus on advancing to the Logan State Music Meet later in the month.
