The local Republican club announces William W Seegmiller former governor candidate will speak Thursday night on Modern Trends in Government under the club educational program. Music by the P H S strings orchestra directed by Tran Decker enhances the event. The public is urged to attend.
The Associated Civic Clubs of Southerntah holds its regular Milford meeting Saturday with a 2 p.m. business session. A banquet around 7 p.m. and a dance follow. L A Wynaught manages hotel reservations for banquet guests. Robert HL Porter of Salt Lake City discusses railroads. The circular notes the first issue of the club paper will launch after month’s end, focusing on Southern Uran’s industry and scenic resources and club activities.
Colonel William C Webb, Army Recruiting officer for the tinker mountain area, announced that the lost enlistments for service in newail or the Philippine Islands would be made April first. Recruiting parties visiting towns in Idaho, Utah, Nevada and Wyoming were relieved from this duty and returned to Ft Douglas to enable them for the 38th Infantry when it leaves for maneuvers near Monte rey, California. There have been 340 enlistments since January first, the recruiting officer said, the largest number in Salt Lake District history. Applicants now best accepted for the 4th Infantry at Fort Maggieoula, Montana. The 2un Battalion of the 4th Infantry stationed at Fort Missoula is scheduled to join others at Fort Lewis, Washington in May for maneuvers. Applications from single men 18 to 25 years of age will be accepted at recruiting offices in Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo, Boise, Pocatello, and Twin Falls.
Word from Logan reports Lewis Adams, son of Mr and Mrs James K Adams, won the wool judging contest held by the college. He also claimed the Wheawallan Steam Stir Trophy for top proficiency in wool studies and earns a two week wool trading experience. A Cedar visitor arrived today to verify the news.
Betty Rae Gibson four year old daughter of George B Ward Gibson died at Standardville Utah hospital after an appendicitis operation. Survived by her parents a brother and three grandparents. Funeral services held at Standardville today with burial at Wasatch Lawn Salt Lake City.
A Scout Court of Honor will be held in the West ward chapel Sunday night at eight o clock. Scouts from four wards including Parowan East Paragonah and Summit will receive awards such as three star scouts three first class scouts six second class scouts and twelve tenderfoot scouts. Parowan East ward is not ready to give awards this time and representation from Paragonah and Summit is unclear. Meetings will occur on Fast Sundays each month in rotation among the four wards, averaging one court of honor every four months for the area.
Grant Lowder was found guilty of driving a car on the highway while intoxicated and fined $100 yesterday in provost justice Thomas D. Adams's court. The sentence says failure to pay the fine will add jail time at a day for each two dollars. The incident stems from a highway collision two weeks earlier south of here involving Wallace Hulet’s car. Hulet testified as the complainant, aided by County attorney J. M. Foster. Attorney George Miller of Beaver represented Lowder in a jury trial seated by D. A. Mathson, Hl. S. Hyatt, Wm. Rowley, and Clarence Pendleton. An appeal was discussed but not pursued once sentencing occurred.
The report by local observer M K Skougard notes Sundays storm added .68 inches, plus .02 from Wednesday totaling .70 inches for the week. Month totals reach 1.28 inches with earlier storm, and winter moisture remains near normal. Paros wan Literary Club met at Alea Alica Richards home with Ethel Bayles named for membership. Next meeting at Gwen M Gurrs home with Paula N Benson reviewing Santayaos latest book The Las Puritas.
Parowan West Ward announces a ward reunion next Monday night March 30 at 7 30 The event includes an entertainment in the Ward chapel and a dance in the recreation hall with no admission charge Ice cream popcorn and balls will be sold at the dance Proceeds go toward the chapel debt The bishopric and committee urge a large turnout from everyone in the ward over sixteen years of age.
Coach Orland Ward leads P H 5 junior high team to Beaver for a two day event part of a state high school contest. Players Jensen Mitchell Davis Gurr Robnson Macfarlane Warren will face Milford and another school. Banquet Saturday. Beaver Chamber of Commerce to award banner.
The Times reports a City Council meeting set for April 7 1936 at 1 30 p m to hear delinquent taxpayers who have not proposed redemptions. Notices have been sent from the City Records office and if no payment is made the County will sell the affected property in May to recover taxes. The final year of special improvement taxes due this August could see the city forced to buy unpaid lands to protect its equity.
Band Mothers led by Janes C. Robinson sponsor Inchcave High School play to raise funds for the band's trip to the Blute music contest in Logan. They canvassed town for advance tickets and urge community support. reserved seats on sale at Parawan Market.
The high school announced a postponed track meet due to weather and a Saturday night production of Double Crosser to raise funds for band uniforms. Senior and junior students prepare for a basketball game with a party prize for the winner while Prom decorations and a trophy contest continue amid class prizes. The annual Swing Hop is slated for April 4 with proceeds aiding the cyclorama and P. I. S. storage, plus a public invitation.
More than a hundred scouts from Parowan and Paragonah gathered at the Rese ntion hall on Friday night for games and a peanut feast. Leaders included Selon Marsden Ernest Greer Marvin Jones and John Beal with Orland Ward directing activities. After a lively evening the group tired from play enjoyed peanuts before departing Morria Hathiussen left for Los Angeles to finish a course in Diesel engineering begun last summer.
The Utah Motorist Association is formally launched by Dr Styles Wherry of Ogden as president. The group aims to boost highway development and Utah’s role in Western motor travel, holding AAA affiliation and plans to open offices statewide. Directors hail from multiple counties to ensure balanced statewide control.
Work commenced on Parawan Canyon road this week with relief funds and a crew under W. C. Macfarlane of Cedayia in charge. The project aims to improve the road up to the mouth of Puntchard Canyon and to lay power pipes near the city well, marking a significant upgrade over the current route.
The PL W. 8. Junior Prom last Friday evening proved to be one of the best in the school's history. The dance theme featured a Mawatiea Uhema with moonlit decorations and guitar shaped programs. The junior class, the largest in the school, numbered sixty to seventy highly presentable, well dressed students, reflecting credit on the institution and the valley communities.

Mrs. Paxton learned by phone that her son Orwin Orion, famed orchestra leader known as Dub Orken, was married in Provo where he had lived for years. The bride Genevieve Arowsmaith hails from Ural county. The couple were in Salt Lake City celebrating when Irwin phoned his mother with the news. Relatives and friends in the area send wishes for happiness.
Camping men from the County Committee of the Boy Scout organization plan a Saturday morning trip to Provo for a special meeting of the Utah National Parks Council. They aim to hear from Mr. John Skinner Wilson, camp chief in Great Britain, who will share important information. Six delegates depart the county, two from Parowan, three from Cedar City, and one from Panguitch, with H. L. Adams and Loria A Miley from Cedar City among those unconfirmed.
