Garden City MIA opened its season with a ward hall social on Tuesday evening September 23 attended by sixty five members. Counselor Bryan Booth welcomed guests while President Farrell Spencer outlined the winter’s work and invited all to attend. The hall featured maple leaves and fall flowers with music by the Randolph orchestra. Refreshments included root beer and ice cream as the group enjoyed the evening.

Prominent county man Oren B Solum dies at 55
Oren B Solum, Montpelier mayor and Bear Lake County figure, died Saturday in a Salt Lake City hospital after a lingering illness. Born January 11, 1892 in Iola Wisconsin, he moved to Bear Lake years ago and held multiple civic roles including city councilman, county commissioner, and Red Cross chair. He leaves a widow Florence and five sons and daughters, plus six siblings. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Montpelier with burial there.

Hunter safety campaign urged as big game season nears
The Idaho fish and game department renewed a firearms safety push amid rising hunting license demand and an expected 80 000 hunters in the field.
