County petitions court for highway budget increase
Bear Lake County Commissioners at a special meeting moved 15 000 from Current Expense and 12 000 from Charity to Road and Bridge and asked the District Court to raise the 1967 budget from 233 500 to 278 633 64. They reported a 14 4 percent cost rise for binding Compost road and said a 19 104 warrant was sent to the State Highway Department to supplement a 145 200 warrant as the county share for the new highway. LeGrande Johnson Construction Co of Logan Utah bid 393 070 90 and the highway department accepted the bid with work expected to start soon and largely finish next spring except for the oil mat.

Monument Dedicated For 87 Servicemen And 3 Crewmen
A six foot high monument honoring 87 servicemen and 3 crewmen killed in a January 6 1958 plane crash near Beaver Canyon will be dedicated September 23 at 2 30 p m. Reed Bullen will host the program with Gordon Hinckley and Merlin Bishop overseeing ceremonies and the plaque bearing the victims names will be affixed to the stone from Rainbow Quarry in Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

Lloyd Payne Promoted in Germany
Mr and Mrs John Payne of Paris announce their son Lloyd Payne has been promoted from Specialist to Specialist Fifth Class in the 574th Personnel Service Company stationed in Hanau Germany. Payne joined the Army in 1965, trained at Fort Hood and Fort Knox, and transferred to Germany in 1966. He toured Europe on a 20 day furlough in July and hopes to return to Bear Lake area in November.

Longtime Utah Attorney Jesse R Budge Dies in Salt Lake City
Jesse R 5 Budge 89 retired Utah and Idaho attorney died of natural causes Sunday in Salt Lake City. A UM Law School graduate he served as Bear Lake County attorney in 1902 and 1904 and was mayor of Pocatello. He belonged to Stewart Alexander Budge and Budge Parker law firms and the Utah State Public Service Commission from 1957 to 1963. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Colonial Hills LDS Ward Chapel with burial in Logan Cemetery.

Weed Fire Threat near Bloomairigton Farm
A weed fire on the Preston Thomas property near Bloomairington spread quickly but was contained with shovels bars and two water wagons. Residents and Sheriffs Department aided in battling the blaze to prevent spread to a nearby uncut grain field and farm buildings.

Funeral services for Ferrell J Poulsen held in Salt Lake City
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Winder 10th LDS Ward Chapel in Salt Lake City for Ferrell Johnson Poulsen, 60, of Salt Lake City, who died Saturday. He was born May 9, 1917 in Liberty, son of William Eli Poulsen and Sarah Ann Johson Poulsen. He married Loretta Jenson in 1950, who died in 1951. He later married Elizabeth Higham in 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Survivors include the widow and sisters in Salt Lake City and nearby towns.
