Fielding High Spartans and Soda Springs Cards Tie 12-12

Fielding High Spartans rescue a 12-12 tie with Soda Springs Cardinals on a soaked field. QB Terry Hymas connected with Vernon Anderson early but a fumbled endzone catch kept the score even at six. A Spartan blocked kick and Vernon Anderson recovery plus a late David Matthews touchdown leveled the game. Gene Webb starred on defense and offense as Fielding piled up 14 first downs. Next, NHL Spartans visit Grace for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.

Community theatre asks for more family tickets

Novelty Theatre manager Jimny Hawkes urges area residents to buy family tickets to reach 100 sold and keep the six month plan, which costs 1500 dollars and covers at least eight movies monthly, from being cut to single weekly showings. Local volunteers donate labor to run the non profit project benefiting church building programs.

Bear Lake County Centennial Celebration Planned

The Bear Lake County Centennial Committee urges all residents to wear pioneer or western attire during a week of events from Sept 22 to Sept 27. The program features religious services, youth programs, a Mammoth pioneer parade with two ox teams, a barbecue, child entertainment, gun exhibits, square dancing, football homecomings, and a county museum open hours. Prizes for parades and contests include cash awards, and entrants must submit entries to Secretary Dean Ward by Sept 20.

The Idaho Historical Society plans a highway marker on Highway 89 at the Paris city limits to record the town and county settlement from a century ago. Frank W. Hirschi notes the marker and the fall issue highlighting Bear Lake County’s centennial for students, libraries, and legislators.

Larsen dies in ore bin mishap at Central Farmers

Hal Theodore Larsen 28 died Wednesday in an ore bin accident at Central Farmers Fertilizer Co. He was born February 5 1935. The Montpelier resident leaves a widow and four children. Funeral services were held in St Anthony. Survivors include his parents two step-brothers two brothers two sisters and other relatives. He was a member of the LDS Church.

Six Hampshire ewe lambs donated to University of Idaho

Six registered Hampshire ewe lambs were donated to the University of Idaho Animal Science Dept. by Matthews Brothers of Ovid and Daniel Roberts of Preston after the National Ram Sale at Ogden. Present were university officials and breeders who praised the university’s sheep program and thanked supporters for 80 years of service to the industry. The Matthews family had topped the sale with a yearling registered Hampshire ram at $10,050.
