Sage Grouse Season Opens in Eastern Idaho

Hundreds of hunters will flood eastern Idaho for a day and a half Sage Grouse season opening at noon Saturday September 17 ending at sundown Sunday September 18. Bear Lake Caribou Bonneville Jefferson Bingham Madison Clark Fremont and Power counties plus portions of several others open with a bag limit of two birds. Bear Lake Clark and Teton counties are pheasant free this year with other counties opening October 29 to November 1. Goose bird limits apply in grouse sections with a two-bird cap for blue Ruffed and Franklin grouse south of the Sugar City Jackson highway.

New members elected to the county board of education

County trustees met in Paris to elect new members to the County Board of Education. Evan Morgan and William B. Crane won 3 year terms, LaVell G. Ward a 2 year term, and Hidon Cook and T N Sneddon will serve one more year. Five nominees were considered by secret ballot. After January 1951 the board will assume full control of county education.

Fielding High School Holds Annual Homecoming September 23

Fielding High School celebrates its annual Homecoming on Friday September 23 with a 1 p.m. assembly in the high school auditorium followed by a parade and a football game against Grace on the Fielding gridiron. Alumni are encouraged to attend and participate.

Testimonial in Honor of Former St Charles Resident

A large crowd gathered Sunday night in Logan to honor Elder Thomas J Michaelson, a former St Charles resident who entered the Missionary as he prepares to serve in Western Canada. Michaelson, born in St Charles, has lived in Logan 26 years and is widower of Leola Wilhelmsen Michaelson. He has five living children. Attendees included Nephi and Lila Michaelson, Mary Ann Michaelson, Lizzie Jensen, Allie Bunderson, Mozell Budge of Paris, and local figures Mayor George Stock and Irg Law of Montpelier.

Liberty Softball Team Defeated In District Finals

Liberty, Bear Lake Stake champions in the All Church Soft Ball League, fell 11 to 5 to Wellsville Utah in the district final at Logan last Saturday. Liberty had beaten strong opponents to reach the final, including Logan 18th ward and Young ward of Cache Valley, and Wellsville advances to the Salt Lake City championship. Liberty’s roster included Poulsen, Austin, Murray Matthews, Dale Austin, Doyle Matthews, Hymas, Morgan, and others. Bill Matthews coached the squad.

Engineer Employed by Soil Conservation Service to Aid Farmers

Tullis civil engineer transferred to Montpelier to serve as engineer for the Soil Conservation Service. He will divide time between Bear Lake county and Grace with his wife and two daughters Suzanne and Patricia. They moved to Montpelier September 6 to settle in. A graduate of Iowa State College he has worked at Pocatello for nine months.

Former Fielding Teacher Weds California Man

Dr and Mrs Thomas C Romney of Salt Lake City announce the marriage of their daughter Catherine to Allan White. The ceremony was conducted at the Salt Lake Temple by Hitler John A Widtsee of the Council of the Twelve. Catherine formerly taught at Fielding High School. St Charles Man Injured When Struck By Auto

William Clark a 76 year old resident of St Charles was struck by an automobile while crossing near the Clark Welling residence on the highway north of St Charles. He suffered a broken hip and ankle a fractured pelvis and multiple bruises and shock. He was taken to Bear Lake hospital in Montpelier. The car was driven by F S Brown of Canton Ohio who stopped aided the injured man and remained with him until doctors and Brown’s wife accompanied him to the hospital.

Roy Sleight becomes operator of Booth Service Station on North Main, renaming it Sleight's Service.
