Out‑of‑town visitors attend Miss Athay reception in Brigham City

A long list of guests from Citrus Heights, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Farmington, Bountiful and New York joined locals for a reception for Miss Ruth Athay on Wednesday evening. Attendees and nearby towns including Georgetown, Bennington, Montpelier, Ovid and Bloomington are named amid family and social visits across the region.

Miss Ruth Athay Weds James Logan Baer in Salt Lake Temple

Ruth Athay, daughter of Mrs. Amy M. Athay and the late Asa Athay of Paris, married James Logan Baer of Van Wert Ohio in the Salt Lake Temple on Tuesday. The couple hosted a luncheon in Bountiful and a Paris Ward Chapel reception. they plan to reside in Provo, where Baer will hold an assistant professorship as Ruth continues her studies.

Former Garden City Resident Dies in Ogden

Vernon Ladue Pope aged 72 of 3473 Fowler Ave Ogden died Wednesday in an Ogden hospital after surgery. Born November 15 1888 in Vernal Utah he married Mary I Merritt in 1911. Survivors include his widow several Ogden relatives and 32 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 00 pm in the Aulto Rest Chapel.

The Paris Spartans lost 27 to 7 to Bancroft in Friday night action. Bancroft surged to 20 points in the first quarter, then the Fielding defense stiffened before Bancroft added a late touchdown. The Fieldsing team struggled with passing but gained on the ground as Grace visits this Friday.

Paris Girl Married in Salt Lake Rites

Misa Margaret Budge daughter of Taft P. Budge of Paris and Richard Q C Haycock son of Melvin B Haycock of Kanab Utah were united in marriage in the Salt Lake City Temple. Stake Quarterly Conference Held September 16 17

Bear Lake Stake holds its quarterly conference on September 16 and 17 with President Joseph Fielding Smith and Elder Walter Dansie present. A Welfare meeting at 6 30 p m and a Priesthood Leadership meeting at 8 p m occur Saturday in the Paris Ward Chapel. Sunday sessions at 10 a m and 2 p m in the Tabernacle invite all to attend.

Three Men Report for Draft Examinations and Transfers

Three men were called to report at Boise for physical examinations by the local draft board and left Paris Tuesday morning for Boise. Three men were transferred from the local draft board to the locality where they now live. The travelers were Jerald Bloorn of Nounan Gary Buhler of Barn and Dale Minnig of Nounan. Transfers were Ronald Ashley Beryl Loveland and Paul Stock.

Alfred Johnston a former Bear Lake County resident died in Elko Nevada on Wednesday September 6 1961 He was born February 11 1891 in Paris Idaho Parents were Edward and Mary Johnston He is survived by two sisters Delta Pierson of St Charles Velma Bunn of Montpelier and one brother Homer Johnston of Kellogg Idaho Funeral services were held in Elko on Saturday September 9 1961.

Daughters of Pioneers Social Honors Retiring Officers

The Bear Lake County Daughters of Utah Pioneers held a social at the Montpelier Recreation Hall on September 8 at 8:00 pm to honor retiring officers who served four years. Dorothy Matthews welcomed the group and presided as master of ceremonies. The program featured songs, prayers, piano, tap dances, readings, and a 75 year old musical number, with pie and almond refreshment served to 125 attendees.

A three month Officer Training School trains officers for missile operations, guidance, supply, air police, finance, electronics, meteorology and communications with overtime opportunities for women applicants. OTS graduates are assigned to technical training based on needs, education and aptitude.
