Round About the Town lists numerous local families visiting relatives and attending events across Idaho and Utah. It notes weekend travels to Logan Bountiful Paris and Ogden, visits to BYU and college friends, and attendances at fairs weddings and games with many named residents and host households.
On September 12 the Arizona gang held their summer annual party at Béar Lake near Stock's lake side cottage. About thirty attendees, including couples from Cabher Valley and Loght, enjoyed breakfast and companionship in perfect weather with a refreshing breeze.
The Fielding P T A met for its first regular session Monday September 18 at 8 00 p m President Blanche Piggott welcomed members and announced monthly meetings on the second Wednesday Invocation by Naomi Hirsch program details were presented by Elaine Webb Principal Ralph Eoe introduced staff The meeting adjourned until October continuation of the schedule was noted
Dennis Archie Parker son of Mr and Mrs Archie Parker of Lanark will receive a farewell testimonial Sunday September 24 at 8 00 pm in the Liberty Ward Chapel before departing for the North British Mission. He is a Fielding High School graduate 1960 and has attended Weber College in Ogden the past year. The program features Idell Matthews preface and postlude music Bishop Warren Passey remarks by Allan Stephens and David Parker solos by Joseph Prows Rodney Bergholm and a missionary response by Joseph Prows.
Fielding Spartans lost 7-0 to Grace after Grace scored in the third quarter. The Spartans dominated the first half with strong runs and defense but were unable to match Grace’s late score as optimism grows for a solid season ahead with local fan support.
Opinions on safety patrols in elementary schools are mixed across the state. Some schools support the practice while others oppose or remain indifferent. Parents differ on their children’s participation, and new Idaho law authorizes patrols without mandating them, with impact unclear after one year.
Mia Arstahie Nye of Salt Lake City and Blaine Parkinson son in law of A Young attended a social at the Bill My4 residence last Thursday inviting attention in local circles.
Funeral services were held in Garden City Chapel for Isolde Wamsley on Saturday at 1 o clock. The service included prayers by Elder Frank Satterthwaite and multiple speakers with musical tributes led by Garden City choirs and ward members. Casketbearers were DeLoyd Satterthwaite LaVon Satterthwaite Reed Wamsley Allen Wamsley Dee J Wamsley Bud Hyden.
Union Pacific Railroad was named winner of the Harriman Memorial Gold Medal for its 1960 safety record. It marks the fifteenth win in thirty seven years, under a rule that prevents a repeat in the following year. The award considers train passenger casualties, in train and non train accidents to employees, and other safety factors among Class 1 railroads with at least 15 million locomotive miles annually. The medal will be presented at a New York dinner on September 20.
A birthday dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Layland in Montpelier Friday evening. Attending were the Law and Parker families, Byron Myklehorst of Citrus Heights California, Bay Law and Lynett Pugmire of St Charles. Slides of Scott Law’s army adventures were shared.
The water improvement measure passed with a large margin at a Paris special election. Of 249 votes cast, 229 supported the plan and 18 opposed, with two invalid ballots. The turnout was strong given about 300 eligible voters.
Stake Conference in Paris held over weekend in the Stake Tabernacle with Joseph F Smith and Mrs Smith present. Several church leaders were interviewed, new High Council members named, and a new Stake presidency installed with William K Matthews as president.
A Idaho Falls couple and their infant were boaters on Lake Bear Sage when wind gusts stranded them near the Arthur Shirley farm in Fish Haven. They escaped the cold sleet and were driven to the Holiday Inn by the Shirley family.
A testimonial event honours Miss Merlyn Taylor of Paris at 7 30 p m Sunday in the Paris Second Ward Sacrament meeting. She departs October 9 to enter the Mission Home before serving a mission for the L D S Church in France. Mrs Carson Taylor and Mr Carson Taylor are her parents.
Mrs Lucy Violet Kingston Poulson 72 of Salt Lake City died Friday September 15 at 8 00 p m in a Bountiful rest home of natural causes. Born August 6 1869 in Morgan County Utah she was twice married first to Alonzo Jenks then to James Poulson. Survived by three children 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Union Mortuary Bountiful. Burial in Bountiful Memorial Park.
The Idaho Landowner-Sportsman Council announces three new signs issued by the Boise Fish and Game office to aid landowners. The signs warn hunters about seed crops livestock and sprinkler pipes and carry the slogan hunting on private land is a privilege not a right.
Idaho 4 H clubs total membership reached 17 067 this summer, the first time above 17 000. Dan E Warren, state club leader with the University of Idaho extension service, reported the rise from 16 449 last year, noting girls outnumber boys about two to one. The enrollment included 611 boys and girls in the 4 H club work.
Bear Lake Stake Temple Day is next Tuesday September 26. Melchizedek Priesthood holders and their wives are urged to obtain a recommend and attend at least two sessions if possible.
Mountain States Telephone brings Phonorama a 42 foot trailer with animated displays tracing telephone development from Bell in 1876 to modern communications. William A. House says the exhibit shows radio programs, TV transmissions, and underground pipeline controls using telephone facilities. A TV display lets visitors see themselves on screen as part of the show. The exhibit runs September 21 in Montpelier and September 22 in Paris with free admission.
Savings Bond Chairman Waight announced Idaho August sales at 5 959 with state total of 716 005 for August. First eight months lift to 6 029 568 nationwide. Treasury says eight million workers contribute weekly to Savings Bonds, aided by labor unions support over 20 years.
Forestry Supervisor’s office held a farewell dinner on September 14 in Logan for Robert Jacobson assistant Forest Ranger bound for Southern Utah. The Jacobsons spent two years in Paris with Bob leading local 4-H Forestry boys and earning many friends. Attendees from Paris included Granart Richand von Lanny Payne Richard Budge and Floyd Lewis.
A Minnedoka Cave season report shows 1961 visitor total of 2,566, up from 1960 by over 1,300. Visitors came from 27 states and Canada, Mexico, Samoa, Morocco, Pakistan, and India. July 24 saw 216 visitors, July 4 had 160, and seven other days exceeded 100.
