Farm employers reminded to withhold social security tax and report cash wages for workers who are covered. A worker earning 150 or more cash wages in the year is covered, or those with 20 or more days for one employer on a time basis. Social Security rep will be at Montepelier city hall on Tuesday September 17.

Funeral services held for mine accident victim Jabez Thomson
Funeral services were held for Jabez George Thomson 32 of Randolph Utah who died from injuries in a mine accident near Randolph after a cave in while he was with a co worker in the Arickaree Phosphate mine. Thomson born April 28 1925 was survived by his widow eight children and four brothers. Burial followed in the Randolph church cemetery with many Bear Lake Basin coworkers in attendance.

Explorer Scouts Penetrate Big Cave Near Paris
Explorer Scouts and M I A leaders from Paris ward explored a cave in Mill Canyon Ridge Idaho near Sleight's canyon. They lowered themselves through four rooms using rope 250 feet long and spent five and a half hours inside before rope shortage halted entry to the lower chamber. Rock echoes as they dropped into water marked the ascent. Participants included Grant Haddock Ross Minson Clyde Taylor Gerald Grimmett Thomas Smedley Grant Passey Richard Budge Larry Michel Gerald Vallentine all of Paris and Paul Stock of Fish Haven.

The sixth annual fat stock sale at Bear Lake County fairground Montpelier saw the grand champion steer bought by Walton Feed for a record 53 dollars per hundred pounds. Allen Tigert’s reserve champion sold to SafeWay Montpelier after IGA Montpelier pushed the price to a new record. Thirty six beef and three fat lambs sold. beef average 23.36 per hundred, lambs 32 per hundred. Local buyers dominated this year with two thirds of stock sold to Montpelier merchants and farmers.

Funeral services for Barn George Cheney 49 Laketown will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Laketown Ward chapel. Cheney, who died Tuesday morning September 10 at a St George Utah hospital after a long illness, was a longtime Laketown resident and photographer for weddings. He was son of Mrs Emma W Cheney and the late Clarence E Cheney and planned to move to Apple Valley California with his wife for the fall and winter months seeking a better climate. A reception followed the wedding service with many gifts for the newlyweds.

The Idaho Wool Growers association will hold its 31st annual Pocatello ram sale on Saturday September 14 at 9 30 a m at the Union Stockyards.
