Fielding to Meet Preston Friday in Last Home Game

Fielding High Sparts host Preston Friday in their final home football game. They previously lost 6 to 0 to Bancroft on Bancroft’s field, failing to score on several drives near the goal line. The team outplayed Bancroft for most of the game but couldn’t convert chances.

The Literary club met at Lilies Grimmett's home on a Wednesday evening to honor Jean Kunz who is moving to Rupert. Memorial service planned for Sgt Linford November first

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 PM in St. Charles Ward chapel for Sgt Oneal Linford. The American Legion will conduct graveside military services. Linford, born March 2 1920, entered the Army Air Corps in 1942 and was reported missing August 24 1943 after a bombing raid over Hangchow China. His body was identified among the crew recovered years later in China. Survivors include his mother Alice Linford and siblings George Noel James Golden Linford.

State Spends 1614 Million on Local Roads in Five Years

Figures from the Associated Taxpayers of Idaho show the Gem State spent about sixteen and a half million dollars in five years on local roads with taxpayers contributing around seven and a quarter million to operating costs last year. The report notes 74 highway districts across 40 counties and calls for consolidation to reduce duplicated costs while districts carry greater bond debt than counties for road work.

Rollo Nye and family spent Friday through Sunday in Galt Lake. John Ballentyne and wife from Bozeman Montana stayed over the weekend at the Dan Rich home. Mrs Athol Stone and family visited with her parents Mr and Mrs Brank Bolton and Ruby. Miss Diane Rich stayed with Miss Lucille Matthews last Thursday. She attended the farewell party for Lynn Austin at Liberty. The fireside chat was at the home of Mr and Mrs Wm Hoge Sunday evening. The Doct and Covenants recitation was practiced and discussed with Mrs Hoge leading the discussion. Lunch followed. an enjoyable time was had by the group.

Margean Wallentine Weds Farrell J Nate in Logan Temple

Mr and Mrs L C Wallentine of Lanark announce the marriage of their daughter Margean to Farrell J Nate of Dingle. The ceremony occurred October 22 at the Logan DS Temple with family members present. Margean, a Fielding High School Paris graduate 1946, has worked as a dental assistant in Montpelier since 1946. Farrell works at King’s Variety in Montpelier. They will live in Montpelier and keep current jobs.

The Paris 2nd Ward Relief Society will hold its annual conference Sunday evening with two meetings. Garden City Man Dies in Salt Lake Hospital

Leroy B. Pope 42 of Garden City Utah died Saturday evening at LIDS hospital Salt Lake City after a major operation. Born January 27 1905 in Garden City he attended Randolph High School Brigham Young University and USAC Logan. Survived by widow Claudia Kimball mother two children Blaine K and Della June two sisters Mrs Ross Hodges and Mrs Stanley Mattson. Pheasant Season Opens Noon November First in Idaho

Idaho hunters may fire after 12 noon on November 1 for pheasants with a noon start. The commission ordered a noon opening to give birds a better chance during the inaugural hunt. After November 1 upland birds may be shot any hour. waterfowl schedules differ and do not run with pheasant season in Idaho. Bear Lake county has no pheasant season this year.

Trout Season to Close on Idaho Streams October 31

Idaho will close trout season on most streams October 31 with good catches and favorable stream conditions noted. The Pend d’Oreille lake set a world record rainbow at 3 3/4 pounds, and fishing on the Snake Salmon Middle Fork Salmon and Bear rivers continues into November on some waters.

Mackinaw Trout Leads Weekend Contest Catch

Charles Twitchell of Garden City caught an 8 pound 6 ounce Mackinaw trout in the lake Sunday, the largest reported so far in the contest. Mrs Dee Wever visited Ogden with her mother Mrs Wm Walker. The Doctrine and Covenants study group met at Arlin Pugmire home in St Charles. Bride-to-be Honored at Shower in Paris Ward

Neighbors and friends honored the bride-to-be Nondas Wallentine at a Monday evening shower in the Paris 2nd ward chapel. The program featured piano solos and readings by local residents, with group singing led by Grace Heap and Beulah Bird. Ice cream and cookies were served to about 55 guests.

Soil conservationist warns soil base underpins national strength

A U. S. Soil Conservation Service official told a Pocatello Chamber meeting that top soil is the nation's base for strength and future welfare. Norton urged rapid adoption of basic conservation, noting erosion threatens cropland and that about one fourth of U S cropland is eroding seriously.
