Biologists project a just so-so pheasant season across southern and eastern Idaho starting Saturday at noon. No limited hen hunting this year. expected statewide harvest near 515,400, below recent peaks but around long-term averages. Hunter surveys show 1964 to 1966 highs for cock and hen counts, with 1958 and 1963–1964 notable cock harvests.
The Emerson School PTA invites the public to a Friday carnival at 7 30 p m featuring food games and fun for all. Proceeds support PTA activities and student programs.
The Six Point Hereford Association presents the third All Clear Pedigree Sale on November 2 at the Pocatello stock yards. Show starts 9 30 a m sale at 1 00 p m. Ken Trout of Emmett auctions. 72 horned and polled bulls from 17 Idaho and Utah breeders to be graded under University of Idaho standards with B grade or higher required. After the bull sale, 25 top 4 H and FFA steers will be offered. Sponsored by the Idaho Junior Hereford Association. Jensen Bros of Montpelier among consignors.
Following an investigation in Paris, Spencer H. Rich and Mrs. Low ell Dee Nielson of Ovid were cited. Rich faces charges for failure to yield the right of way and failure to purchase a drivers license after the Oct 10 accident.
Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Department looked into two crashes this week. A Salt Lake City man, Charles H. Cobb, 20, and passenger Beverly Christensen, were in a rear end collision west of Ovid injuring no one. damage totaled about $1,000 to Cobb’s car and $500 to Velma Hymas’s parked vehicle. In a separate wreck near Montpelier, truck driver Johnnie J. Fluckigar, 21, was seriously injured when a Mann Logging Co. truck overturned after leaving the highway. passenger Jerry Mann, 32, had minor injuries. Speed and drinking cited as factors. Fluckigar transferred from Bear Lake Memorial to LDS Hospital.
The Bear Lake Republican Woman's Federation schedules a meet the candidates session at Paris City Hall. Republican Legislative District and County candidates will be on hand from 10 to 12 a.m. to meet the public. Refreshments will be served per Leonora Stucki.
County Clerk Amos Hulme reports 239 absentee ballots issued and being returned. Ballots available until November 4 must be returned by noon November 5. New resident ballot available for those recently moved. ballots contain only presidential and vice presidential candidates and must be voted at the county clerk's office. Registration closes November 2. check eligibility with precinct registrar.
Paris business figures Mr and Mrs Ivan Beck announce the sale of Beck's Conoco Service to Mr and Mrs Charles Chick Faulkner of Bloomington. The Becks, who opened the current station on Memorial Day 1957, will stay in Paris in semi retirement. Mr Beck plans to farm a small acreage and raise black Angus cattle.
Bear Lake High School PTA and the public are invited to a meeting at 8:00 p.m. on October 28 in the school auditorium. Six of the candidates in the November 5 election will speak for five minutes each on campaign issues, followed by a question and answer session. Mrs. Calvin Davidson leads arrangements.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 00 p m Saturday at the Laketown LDS Ward Chapel for Stephen Earley 58 who died at his home in Round Farley October 16 after a long illness He was born September 30 1910 in Randolph Utah a World War II veteran and member of the LDS Church Survivors include his widow a stepson Roger Earley of San Diego a stepdaughter Bonnie Alley of Los Angeles and brothers George W Alton M and sister Lucy Willis all of Laketown Interment followed at Laketown Cemetery
The annual meeting and banquet take place on October 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the Montpelier Stake Center. Leonard Johnson of the American Farm Bureau will speak on natural resources. reservations are available through the Montpelier Farm Bureau office.
