Fielding Spartans Face Montpelier Bears in Annual Classic

Fielding High Spartans meet the Montpelier Bears Friday on the Montpelier field for their annual football classic. Fielding has never beaten Montpelier, with only a 1941 scoreless tie as the closest outcome. Both teams arrive with two defeats. Montpelier beat Aston Wyoming and lost to Blackfoot and Kemmerer, while Fielding lost to Logan and Malad but beat Lava Hot Springs nearby. The Bears hold a weight and experience edge this year.

Round Up Dance Set for October 31 at Paris Pavilion

The Bear Lake Rangers announce their annual Round-Up dance to be held at the Paris pavilion in Paris on Friday night October 31. Music by Luke and Eva Orchestra will furnish the entertainment.

Mimeographed ads circulate in county with mixed origins

A small mimeographed advertising sheet appeared in the county last week claiming Montpelier and Paris ties but produced in Brigham City Utah. Advertisers tout wide distribution across Bear Lake North Rich Caribou and Franklin counties and southwest Wyoming while local papers warn advertising rates in county papers may be cheaper. A separate example traces egg pricing from a South Dakota farm to New York City showing multiple middlemen and profit at each step.

Man Found Shot to Death in Montpelier Hotel Room

Gilbert Peterson 35 of Soda Springs was found shot in his Burgoine Hotel Montpelier room Friday night. Peterson, a Union Pacific railroad employee, had gone to his room with work orders and was discovered with the top of his head blown off and a 20 gauge shotgun beside him. The body was taken to Soda Springs, his parents’ home.

Harvest Ball at Fielding High School Oct 17

Fielding High School will sponsor the Harvest Ball on Friday night October 17 at the Paris pavilion. The Montpelier orchestra Gentlemen of Note will provide music. 2000 Deer Licenses Sold in Bear Lake Open Season

Deer hunting opened Wednesday in Bear Lake with clear weather as about 2000 deer and elk tags sold locally. Conservation officer Pete Horning reported the strong season, noting around forty elk seen in the Bear Lake area. Jack Rogers checked in Wednesday morning as the first to report a deer bag.

Edmond Monsons Honored on 50th Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Edmond Monson of St Charles were honored on their golden wedding anniversary with about 300 relatives, neighbors and friends visiting their home and attending a reception at the ward amusement hall. They were married October 13 1697 in the Logan LDS temple and have lived in St Charles since.

Navy Dead to be Honored on October 26th

Citizens of Idaho and Bear Lake county may participate in the Navy Day tribute organized by the Navy League and aided by Empire Airlines and United Air Lines. Flowers from the region will be gathered via Montpelier Bear Lake county committee chairman Freddie Parker and shipped from Pocatello to Portland Seattle for scattering at sea on October 26th.

Bear Lake Bay Included on First Ship Returning War Dead From Pacific

A grey transport landed at San Francisco with 3028 American WWII war dead from the Pacific. Among the fallen is T Sgt Oneal R Linford, son of Mrs Alice Linford of St Charles. The ship Honda Knot carried most by Honolulu and will deliver caskets to home communities with guard honors. Linford will be honored in St Charles with funeral and burial services.

Garden City Group Tours Idaho Falls Temple

Garden City relatives and friends joined a temple excursion to Idaho Falls on October 9. The group toured the temple, had dinner, and visited local sites before returning home in the late afternoon. Sisters Nina Sorensen and Beatrice Hansen led the excursion since January 1. Endowments total 218 with 5 sealings and about 100 baptisms recorded.

Mink Trapping Season Opens November First in Bear Lake County

The trapping season for Mink in Bear Lake County runs for sixty days starting November 1. Conservation officer Pete Horning states trappers must hold a regular license, obtain a brand number from the State Fish and Game Department in Beise, stamp it on each trap, and tag hides before shipping or sale. Horning will be at the Paris courthouse each Monday afternoon in November and at the Blue Light Service Station in Montpelier Saturdays afternoons.

Mrs Inez Bennett Visited Relatives. Returns to Salt Lake

Bloomington Man Loses Leg in Hunting Accident

Earl Reese 24 called Shorty of Bloomington lost his right leg in a hunting mishap with his uncle Ivan Reese. The shot struck below the knee as a flock of ducks passed, an amputation was done at Bear Lake hospital, and he remained conscious and cheerful.

PTA Holds Regular Meeting at Emergon School

Montpelier Youth Shot Injured While Duck Hunting

Melmar Blechert an 18 year old Montpelier resident suffered a gunshot wound to his right arm while duck hunting northeast of Paris. A pickup truck bump caused a loaded shotgun to discharge, blowing away flesh and part of the bone. He received medical aid in Montpelier and was later moved to Ogden hospital where doctors hope to save his arm. Blechert is the Montpelier Bears first string fullback.
