Fielding High Spartans coached by Skousen won their third straight by defeating Soda Springs 33 6 on a cold rainy day at Soda Springs. Williams Sorenson and Mathews stood out with multiple scores and extra points.
A Sunday goose dinner marked the 81st birthday of Mr George Ellis at the Charles Law home. Attendees included multiple generations of Ellis and Law families from Soda Springs Montpelier Paris and nearby, with a three tier fruit cake baked by Mrs Law and decorated by the granddaughters of Mr Eis.
Local and personal items list visits and weekend gatherings. Names include Dallas Athay Lena Caldwell Clara Rich Woith Haddock Angua Porter and Frank Athay with extended families in Logan Rexburg Soda Springs and Rexburg. Attendees include USAC students Rex Haddock Wayne Vallentine George Hulme and others.
One of Garden City's largest funerals was held Friday for Wallace LaVarr Pope at the ward chapel with parish leaders directing services. Interment followed in Garden City Cemetery as relatives and friends from a distance gathered for tributes, poems, and a post-service luncheon hosted by the Relief Society.
The Paris Lions club hosted a dinner for wives and guests in the High School building. Home Ec class prepared a dinner for forty-one members and guests under Miss Millard. Maurice Barnett joined the club. Farrell Spencer performed on the saxophones with Mrs. Spencer. Sherman Lowe served as toastmaster. Moyle Matthews was named to the five-person livestock judging team for the USAC at the Pacific International Livestock Show in Portland after visits to the University of Idaho and Washington State College.
Bear Lake Valley endured a heavy wet snow event over Friday and Saturday with 3 to 4 inches by Saturday night. Rain and sun on Sunday began melting the snow while a chilly north wind followed. Power outages affected Fish Haven to Laketown for nearly two days as snow loaded tree limbs and caused outages. Ranger Jay B Hann estimated 12 to 18 inches on mountain tops and noted it may be the most snow for early October in ten years.
The American Legion Auxiliary met Thursday afternoon at the Hm ergon School building with Mrs. Goebel in charge. Plans were discussed for a children’s Armistice Day dance and a $5 donation to the Polio drive was approved. Refreshments were served to named members. Dues are urged to be paid to Lillian Beck or Amber Goebel.
U S Senator Bert Henry Miller a Democrat former Idaho Supreme Court justice died of a heart attack at his Washington home on Saturday at age 70. Born in St George Utah he attended Brigham Young University and Cumberland University law school. He practiced in Idaho Falls and St Anthony serving as prosecuting attorney and then attorney general for four terms beginning in 1933.
Mrs Beatrice Arnell returns from Fielding Utah. Norma Pugmire visiting Paris with her parents during husband’s illness. Blaine Rich and James Linford back from California. Velda Ferguson returns to Provo after three weeks with Swenson family. Many locals travel to Logan Ogden River Heights and Logan for visits and medical aid. St Charles ward choir led Sunday services at Loganth Ward with Burdette Pugmire and Arlin Pugmire presenting music and remarks.
LeRoy Ward of AC spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Carver and sons and Lela Evans visited Mr. and Mrs. Victor Reese. Fred Briscoe’s birthday brought together their children and grandchildren including Clifford Price of Paris and Clarence Bolton of Conda. Howard Broomhead returned to Utah. Casper Hill accompanied him. Gladys Jacobson is on the sick list. Thomas Piggott stayed with his family while working on the railroad in Ogden. A group met at Otis Bateman’s home Monday evening with Inez Findlay and Maud Bateman in charge of refreshments. attendees included Bryan Haddock, Delora Nelson, George Piggott, Alma Findlay.
At an elaborate installation in the courthouse on Wednesday night the American Legion installed new officers led by Alfred W. Shepherd. Chauncey Mattson is Commander and Edwin H. Shepherd is Vice Commander with Sargent B. Rich as Adjutant and Finance Officer. Other posts include Clem Humpherys Chaplain Ezra J Hoge Service Officer LaVaughn Barfus Sergeant at Arms F Leslie Bolton Historian and Executive Committee Alfred Shepherd Floyd Lewis Blake Jensen. Out-going officers Blake Jensen Newell Parker and John B Hoge received thanks for a job well done. The old officers were praised for handling rites related to the return of war dead.
Fielding Spartans of Class B meet Montpelier Bears in a Friday 2 pm showdown at Montpelier. Fielding holds 3 2 with losses to Lava Hot Springs 13 7 and Weatside 26 25, big wins over Grace 32 0 Bancroft 32 6 Soda Springs 33 6. Montpelier, Class A, beat Blackfoot 18 13 Malad 18 0 and tied Aston Wye. injuries mild and two weeks off but ready.
Herzog of Geneva called Monday at the Christian Tueller home. Mr. and Mrs. DeWin Anderson and sons of Central were weekend visitors at the Wm. Jensen home. Miss Mary Bolton left for Salt Lake City for vacation. Mrs. Roy Patterson and children of Blackfoot stay with her parents, the Jensens. Lewis Shepherd and two sons of Malad visited Bear Lake. October Parent-Teacher meeting set for October 19 at 8 in Emerson school. Lyman Tueller of Geneva and Wallace Teasther of Montpelier visited the Tueller home. Daughters of Utah Pioneers candy sale at the High School to aid the Memorial building in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Ivan Beck and Mrs. Mary Hartney at the Lee Alleman home. Hartney ill. Clinton Grandy of Ogden spent weekend in Paris with relatives. Henry Grandy returned to Paris with his son after visiting Ogden. L Spencer and daughter Irene Wyler drove to Salt Lake Friday and back Sunday. Mrs. Spencer had been in Salt Lake for medical treatment.

Ducks and geese hunters may begin at noon Friday October 14 with a split season running to December. First half ends November 2 and the last period runs December 9 to 28. Shooting hours, bag limits, and special rules for Idaho are outlined, including refuges closed and the required federal duck stamp.
