Garden City Man LaVarr Pope Dies in U L Hospital

Wallace LeVarr Pope 51 of Garden City Utah farmer died Monday at 12:45 pm in Holy Cross hospital Salt Lake City from a throat infection after two months of illness. Born December 18 1807 at Border Idaho he moved to Garden City at age two. He married Hilda Brooker November 26 1923 in Randolph Utah. Survived by widow two daughters Lois Satterthwaite LuWana Pug mire and son Alfred L. Pope five brothers and four sisters plus five grandchildren. Services Friday at 1 pm in Garden City Ward chapel with viewing at family home Thursday 2 pm to Friday noon.

Mrs Frank Athay Honored at Open House Birthday

Friends and relatives are invited to call at Mrs Frank Athays home Sunday afternoon October 9 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. to honor her 77th birthday anniversary. Mrs Preston Thomas and her two children, who had been visiting Archie Shephard family, left last Wednesday for Seattle Washington.

VA Announces Rate of Pay For Insurance Dividend

The Veterans Administration outlined the proposed dividend scale for distributing a 2.8 billion National Service Life Insurance payout among about sixteen million World War II veterans. Max payout would be 528 dollars, based on a 10,000 policy held 16 months for under age 40. a single rate applies across ages. The plan covers term and converted policies, with payments only for periods the policy was in force before 1948.

Former Paris Man Dies in Hyrum Utah

Frank Edward Dusenberry aged 73 died Friday morning at his Hyrum Utah home from causes of advanced age. A longtime auctioneer, he lived in Provo Salt Lake City and Paris Idaho before moving to Hyrum 14 years ago and served in many civic roles. Survivors include wife four sons one daughter and many grandchildren with funeral services held Tuesday in Hyrum.

Fielding High Spartans under Coach Skousen showed grit in the Wednesday game at Bancroft, winning 32-8. Darrell Sorenson scored three touchdowns and 40 yard return, Paul Williams added a 40 yard TD, and Darrell Beckran 35 yard TD. Williams and Poulsen kicked two extra points. Norma Roghaar Named Clerk for Selective Service

Mrs. Ralph Roghaar will serve as clerk to the Bear Lake County Selective Service Board. She will be in the office Mondays and Fridays from 1 to 5 p m at the courthouse in rooms just north of the County Clerk's office. Mrs Grant Rich recently resigned after serving several years.

Idaho Closes Eight Mile Creek and Other Waters to Fishing

Idaho Fish and Game announces closures effective September 30 on Eight Mile Creek in Bear Lake and Caribou counties and Sagehen Reservoir and tributaries. Additional closures include Warm Lake Creek and Snake River sections, Big Lost River near Mackay, Silver Creek in Blaine County, and multiple Clearwater and Selway waters due to low water and harvest pressures while restocking proceeds. The general trout season runs June 4 to October with some waters open year round and all northern lakes open to November 30.

Wardboro Boy Wins Heifer at Eastern Idaho State Fair

Carlos Rigby of Wardboro won the 4 H Jersey dairy heifer at the Eastern Idaho District Fair in Blackfoot on Sept 16. The purebred calf, purchased from the Park Brothers of Shelley, was donated by the Salt Lake Tribune Telegram. Carlos, judged on need scholastic standing and care facilities, will report quarterly to Tribune Telegram representative J S Perry and show the animal again at next year’s fair.

Montpelier business man dies suddenly at home

Edward Allhands 63 a Montpelier businessman died Tuesday morning at his home from a heart attack. He came to Montpelier in 1943 from Greeley Colorado and operated the Gamble Store before taking over the Tri-State Motor Co. He was a Mason and Moose member and left a widow and two children Archie Young of Montpelier and Kenneth Allhands in Germany with the Army. He was born October 7 1886 in Watseka Illinois. Surviving brothers and other relatives are listed. funeral arrangements not set.
