Fielding dominated the Spartans last Friday scoring three touchdowns in the first half and adding one in the final quarters. Fielding improved to multiple visits to the end zone while the Spartans struggled to convert in this setback. The Spartans travel to Westside next Friday as the schedule shows Bancroft 19 Fielding 6 and other matchups listed.

Fielding High School PTA will hold its first meeting of the school year on Thursday October 11 at 8 pm in the auditorium. Mr Stanley Thurber and Mr John Findlay oversee the program arrangements. Suggestions for a better PTA will be welcome at this meeting.
Fielding High School PTA members announce committee appointments led by Mrs Bryan Booth as Magazine chair and Mrs Price Taylor for Program. Key roles include Publicity Mrs Dorothy Warner Budget Rex Haddock and others with officers led by President Mrs Newel Lewis and Treas. Mrs Lloyd Hansen.
Fern Johnson of Cedar City Utah attended a Saturday pre nuptial party in Laketown hosted by her sister Mrs Hart Satterthwaite. The event featured visiting with old friends and a four o clock luncheon for Fern and a group including relatives and honored guests from Garden City Tran USAC 4H and Conda. A separate birthday gathering occurred September 19 at Mrs Olive Lewis home with Ruth Lewis and other attendees.
On Sept 27 the Elizabeth Passey Camp of the DUP gathered 16 members. Capt. Iris Collings presided with prayer by Chaplain Maud Humphreys and songs including Have I Done Any Good and low Gentley Sweet Afton. Mrs Ann Rich gave a history, duets by Darlene Rich and Leonora Stucid, Peg of My Heart and Pagan Love Song. Jane Matthews accompanied. Lesson They Came in 66 by Amy Athay. Refreshments were served by Lula Hoge and Rhea Stucki.
Keith Lewis remains in critical condition at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City after a high speed crash on Main Street Paris. Russell Lewis suffered cuts and bruises and was released. Newel Lewis and others involved faced extensive vehicle damage.
Ground Observers Corp held a meet in Fish Haven on Saturday night. Wings were awarded to Mary Howell, Brent Jensen, Max Perkins, Jerry Lou Shirley, LuAnn Loveland, Karen Stock, and Janice Stock. A 100 hour service award went to Alice Jensen, Carol Howell, Elden Kear, Melba Pugmire, Juanita Loveland, and Ruth Stock. The 250 hour bars were awarded to Jesse Cottle, Vera Earl, Jennie Pugmire, Myrtle Cottle, and Dorothy Earl Col. Gaffney of the Sth Air Division Boise made the presentations.
The Paris 1st Ward Church hosted a Delta Kappa Gamma luncheon and business meeting on Saturday September 22 with officers Rita Gorton Roma Anderson LaReen Lowe Aida Oakey and many members including Gertrude Freeman Edna Lal latin Ruby Sorenson Evelyn Thirkill Mary Jensen Esther Ziggler Cora Vavricka Ada Candle Merinda Sparks Lucile Crawford and Mabel Athay plus guest Ita Campbell. Marlys Athay performed piano solos and Anne Haddock sang a vocal. next meeting set for Preston October 15. Mr and Mrs Darwin Vallentine left last week for a vacation in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Mr and Mrs Weldon Grandy and Margean and Mr and Mrs Emil Grandy visited Salt Lake and Ogden on a Saturday trip with Janice and Gary Grandy, sharing time with relatives in Utah.
Mrs Owen Watterson hosted a Friday bridge gathering on September 21 with Mrs Hd na Long winning high score and Dorothy Varner taking the all out prize. Refreshments followed for Mesdames Orilean Innes Edna Long Ethel Jensen Ines Tunksa Audrey Monson Lynn IXerns and Dorothy Varner.
An extremely dry summer period from June to October yielded only 1.12 inches of precipitation, with June 0.32, July 0.34, August 0.80, and September 0.16 inches. This four month total is 2.24 inches below the 3.36 inch average, marking the driest stretch in six years while the weather year to Sept 20 runs 0.74 inch above the long term norm due to heavy December–January moisture. Past six years show rainfall totals ranging from 12.08 to 16.45 inches.
Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the old home of Ronald Parker on Sleight's Canyon Street. The Arnell Earley family last occupied the two story structure, uninsulated and unoccupied for two years, with a few Wardleys items lost. The fire went unnoticed until the building was fully ablaze and the property was not insured. Parker thanks helpers who kept the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.
Wm Lauritzen of Bear Lake Stages asks the Idaho Public Utilities Commission for permission to suspend passenger and express service on the Paris to Montpelier route from Oct 20, 1956, to Apr 20, 1957 due to lack of passenger traffic. Protests must state reasons for denial.
The Emerson PTA met Thursday September 27 with Elaine Webb presiding. Oletha Ward presented a financial report, faculty introductions followed, and Mary N. Miles announced a one year Parent-Teacher Magazine subscription prize to Lucille Wilks and Stanley Morgan.
Gilbert Hull of Paris mistook a moose for an elk while hunting in Elk Valley hast Monday. He dressed out the animal and brought it to Game Conservation officer Lance Townley. A suspended fine and three dollars court costs were paid. The animal will go to a state institution for consumption. Hull did the right thing, unlike other hunters who reportedly left two killed moose to spoil.
Mayor Grandy and the City Council designate October 18 as Fall Clean-up Day with free trash removal for residents.
Funeral services for Dr Harklesa Carl Curless 85 were held Saturday at 2 p m in the Fish Haven Ward Chapel with interment at Paris Cemetery Matthews Mortuary in charge. The obituary notes his birth November 24 1870 in Loraine Illinois medical degree from Drake University 1896 marriage to Charlotte Wooten 1897 moving to Fish Haven 1908 and retirement from medicine after moving Bear Lake. Surviving wife two sons Eugene Curless Seattle Washington George Curless Fish Haven and four grandchildren nine great grandchildren.

Gilbert Parker arrives home for a 30 day leave from the Navy. He visits his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Parker and enjoys the deer hunt after returning from the Far East. He will complete a four year enlistment in January and is currently stationed at Long Beach California.
The 137th Semi-Annual General Conference of the LIDS Church will be heard at the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle on Saturday October 6 at 7 p.m. The broadcast will be via closed wire from Salt Lake City. Attendance is restricted to Priesthood members. Melchizedek and Aaronic Priesthoodlam invited, with quorum presidents urged to have full attendance.
Forest and range fire conditions in the Cache National Forest are extremely critical due to continued drought. Manger Bob Allison urged public cooperation in prevention and cautioned against careless cigarettes matches and campfires. He noted two fires in the past two weeks were man caused and preventable.
Sheriff Monson reports three Indians from Colorado crashed into the rear of a car driven by Wm Hill near St Charles Tuesday. Both cars were moving in the same direction. The trio fled but were soon apprehended and brought before the judge. They were fined $25 and ordered to pay damages of $157 to the Hill car, then released upon payment.
James Burnett of Garden City Utah State Agricultural College senior earns one of ten $700 scholarships from the American Society of Tool Engineers for outstanding tool engineering students nationwide. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Hillis Burnett of the Lakota Resort.
Three seniors in electrical engineering at Utah State Agricultural College were named recipients of 500 cash scholarships for work and electronics. The 1500 dollars divided among the three seniors is part of a 2000 scholarship fund provided by Hewlett Packard Co. Recipients were Kent and Kay Gmith of Faris and Blair Harrison of Lewiston. The Gmith twins are sons of Mrs. Rose Smith.
The opening social of the Paris 2nd Ward Relief Society occurred Tuesday October 2 at 2 p.m. in the ward chapel. Directed by Hattie Vallentine and Velma Hansen, the program featured a gong piece Woe Thank Thee O God For a Prophet, a vocal duet Can a Little Child Like Me by Beth and Leo Spencer, a ladies quartet Sentimental Journey and Let Me Call You Sweetheart, a ballet dance, a vocal chorus September by Emerson School’s Fourth Grade, and a benediction by Mrs. Vesta Eborn followed by refreshments hosted by Edna Lew and committee.
Bear Lake county farmers were urged to sign 1957 winter wheat Acreage Reserve agreements by Oct 5 1956 with the ASC. The program allows a harvest below farm allotment in exchange for payments based on yield and a 1.07 per bushel unit price.
Sept 23 marked the 48th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Parley N. Hodges of Garden City. Attendees included Heber Kimball and Carole and Ted of Logan, Mark Hodg es and family, Paul Hodges and family, and Jay Hodges and family. Mark shared slides from Japan, Hong Kong, and the spring family reunion.
