A Laketown 4 H Club gathering featured Aleh Janilzadih from Iran as guest of honor. County leader Mrs. Helen Ley and Jolene Earley organized the program with prayers by John Robinson and Rog arley, musical numbers by the Cooking Rascals and Satterthwaite, and a talk about Iran and Utah.
A Salt Lake City event recap of a big pow wow with Liberty 170 strong and a rousing performance led by Brough. Attendees include Edwin and Eva Spencer Seth Amy Kelsey Vera Collingslee J M Stevens 1956 chairman and many local residents plus an illustrated Europe trip lecture by Lyman H Rich USAC and Ada Rich.
Mrs. Dick Perkins of Montpelier landed a 26 pound Mackinaw in Bear Lake last Sunday using a flat fish while trolling. The previous week Mr Perkins caught a 17 pound Mac. This notable catch adds to local success with large trout in Bear Lake.
Emily Gambling Lougee 88 longtime Sharon resident died September 17 in a Boise nursing home. Born April 30 1870 in South Hampton England she came to the United States in 1880. Surviving are two sons three daughters 18 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held September 20 at the Liberty Sharon Ward Chapel with burial at Bear Lake County.
Mr and Mrs F Leslie Bolton announce the engagement of their daughter Evelyn to Sandy Lee Harrell son of Mr and Mrs Fred Harrell of Hermeston Oregon A late October wedding is planned Also Mr and Mrs B W Stucki and daughter Afton were overnight visitors at the Wallace Stucks home in Clearfield Tuesday
Frederick H. Bryans 72 of Pittsburgh died in a two vehicle crash about 7 am last Wednesday three kilometers west of Garden City on highway 89. His wife Mrs Bryans had fractured ribs and cuts. Sheriff Lutz said Bryans drove in the wrong lane on a sharp curve as Neal F Olsen drove a grain truck downhill to avoid impact. The couple had stayed in Garden City after touring Yellowstone and were en route to California to visit relatives.
Mr and Mrs Weyn Bird announce engagement of daughter Colleen to Delmoine Hansen son of Mr and Mrs Delbert Hansen of Garden City. A spring wedding is planned.
Mary Madsen and Dr. Bruce Stucks announce their engagement after a Pullman buffet in honor of Mary Edith Madsen and Dr. Stucks. Mary Edith, a Utah State College graduate, will marry in June at the Los Angeles Temple. Mary Edith studies English and humanities at Washington State College. Bruce Stucks is a veterinary instructor finishing an internship in Kentucky.
The Ground Observers Corp ladies and volunteers, 13 in two groups led by T Sgt A G Stevens and T Sgt P J Job, toured 1630 miles from Fish Haven September 17 20 visiting Pocatello Boise Bliss Pendleton Ore and Moses Lake then Othello Washington. They viewed radar bases watched fighter jets and bombers tested at Hamilton and enjoyed a B 29 flight and field scenes including farms and orchards.
Funeral services held Monday at Liberty-Sharon Ward Chapel for Olive King Rich who died from injuries after being struck by a car on September 18. The service included solos, a choir, remarks by church leaders, and interment at Liberty Cemetery. Survived by sister Emily Orr and foster daughter Mrs Asael Butler with five children. The collision occurred on the Liberty highway as Rich walked east in the traffic lane. Glen Humpherys remained at fault and the vehicle skidded 35 feet before impact. Hospitalized later, she died two days after the accident.

Blackwood of Topeka Kansas Bill Dean Law and Sally Kembel of Estes Park Colorado Owen Blake Toomer and Mary Freeman of Montpelier Idaho Miss LaRue Crawford daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Crawford studying for a degree in operating room management at Baylor University Dallas Texas and employed part time at Truett Memorial Hospital She will be a qualified supervisor when finished This completes the license section and includes details on local education and employment for Crawford The Lewis family celebrated the 18th wedding anniversary at their Rept 22 home with a chicken dinner for 26 relatives seven children six grandchildren and one great grandchild and a lively evening of moving pictures Mr and Mrs Walter Lewin of Orem Utah returned to Orem with their daughter for a few days.
The Board of School Trustees District 38 met in special session Sept. 24 with Chairman Walter E. Clark and other members present. They denied a proposal to close school for the big game hunting opening, citing a mandatory 172 actual school days and safety concerns. They approved 45 minute early closing and bus transport for 5th grade Bennington to enable beginning band, and discussed first grade overloads with half day sessions or a second teacher, opting for transporting a section to a satellite room outside Montpelier. They reviewed enrollment plans, hazing incidents, and building bond plans to present to voters. Funeral attendance noted for Rudolph Sutter. Ice Follies trip to Salt Lake City. and a ladies' club meeting with Arundel book review.
Beverly Smedley left Wednesday for Palm Springs California after spending time with her parents Mr and Mrs Calvin Smedley and sister Mrs Douglas Arnell and husband in Salt Lake. She is a stenographer for the F J Molter Company a real estate firm.
Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Lyle J. Gertsch of Pocatello, formerly of Parl, married September 15 in Las Vegas, honored at a September 21 reception in the First Ward hall. Lyle works at Phillips Petroleum near Arco. Margaret Rich Gertsch attended BYU and worked in Salt Lake City.
Mr and Mrs Frank Jensen of Garden City announce the engagement of their daughter Nola to Joseph Dunford son of T Jeffer son Dunford of Bloomington. An early spring wedding is being planned.
The Bear Lake Basin 89ers Club will meet Tuesday October 2 at the Motor Hotel in Montpelier. A turkey dinner will be served at 7 30 o clock with plates at 1 50. Ladies are welcome and the local club will receive its charter at this meeting.
Amy Gertsch, Mary Passey and Eva Parker visited the old W. G. Smith home near the water mill in Sharon. The house, vacant for some time, was cleaned and the sisters enjoyed a dinner and time together at the cherished site.
Mrs. Vinnie Price and her son Jay with a lady friend from Ogden, joined Mr. Wea ton Hymas of Los Angeles for a Sunday gathering at the Vinnie Price residence.
Word reached Mr and Mrs Edwin H Shepherd that their son LaVoy has been advanced to Staff Sergeant. Sgt Shepherd is stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.
Idaho general elk and deer hunts south of the Shoshone-Clearwater line begin October 1. Hunters should prearrange licenses and permits as shortages may occur. Conditions include dry woods and high fire danger with no shortage of game. Controlled hunts at Soldier Mountain and Pocatello run through early November with remaining permits on a first come basis. Safety color guidance favors yellow over red for visibility.
Mr and Mrs C B Ramey of Porland Oregon stayed overnight with George Ramey and family while en route to Springfield Missouri to visit his mother.
The Melding BWA Chapter dairy judging team won first place at the Eastern Idaho State Fair in Blackfoot. Rich ard Ward led as high point man followed by Glen n Humpherys third and Glade Hymas fourth among thirty four eastern Idaho teams. Fielding Chapter attended on Sept 14 to judge live stock and dairy livestock contests. the live stock team of Robert Transtrum Sterling Valentine and Neill Morgan did not place in the top ten.
