Fielding High School starts the 1945-46 basketball season with a Grace game on home court. Coach Crawford oversees a two week practice as the team gears up for a season of rough spots to iron out.
Sgt. Keith L. Stucki son of Mr and Mrs William B Stucki Paris Utah received an honorable discharge on November 12 from Squadron B 1st AAF Mitchel Field Long Island New York at Fort Devens Mass He is a Good Conduct Medal American Theatre Campaign Ribbon and Victory Medal recipient He arrived home Thanksgiving with his wife Lillian and daughters Gay and Gloria and will visit Paris before moving to California The Stucki family held a Thanksgiving reunion with nineteen of twenty seven relatives at the Paris residence.
The bureau of vital statistics reports 23 auto deaths in Idaho during September, far above the three year average of 9.3 per month. The month highlights the heavy human toll of automobile crashes in the state.
Gene Browning, recently with the U S Naval Hospital Corps at Shoemaker California after Farragut Idaho training, receives a special assignment. He is sent to the University of Southern California for eight months by the Navy to pursue special scientific research work.
Harold J. Freeman seaman second class of Pegram Idaho serves on the auxiliary oiler USS Kennebago. Navy notes a wartime feat rescuing damaged cruisers USS Houston and USS Canberra near Formosa coast amid air attack and typhoon. Kennebago fueled tugs towing the cruisers under danger, alongside USS Pecos. Commissioned December 1943, the ship logged 91,000 miles and fueled 501 ships with 1,384,174 barrels of oil, also delivering 3.5 million gallons of aviation fuel across multiple theaters including the Aleutians Marianas Solomons Admiralties New Hebrides Caroline Philippines Peleliu Saipan Formosa and home waters.
S/Sgt Kay Rich is discharged at Drew Field Florida after serving since December 1942. He flew 380 sorties in European air operations with the 15th Air Altitude and was awarded the Air Medal with two clusters and the Bronze Star. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Dan C Rich of Paris Idaho and returned home with Mrs Rich remaining in Florida.
The Friday afternoon bridge group gathered at Mrs. Bertha Hoge’s home last week. Mrs. Clara Budge captured the high score. Refreshments followed with Mesdames Tueller, Innes, Deardorff, Deardorff, Jones, Shepherd, Tunks, Budge, Iiincke, and the hostess served to finish the event.
Sergeant Lyle M. Rich of Paris Idaho heads the Club Tropicale on Guam for the 815th Bomb Wing. The recreation center serves about 1700 enlisted men at the 20th Air Force B-29 base with a day room game room bandstand and bar. Rich handles bookkeeping liquid rations and entertainment while the club fuels morale as part of a tour by Twentieth Air Force leaders.
A special Legion Auxiliary meeting occurred November 24 at Amy Kelsey’s home in Montpelier. State president Louella Baum from Ashton spoke en route from Chicago, with Drusilla Winters presiding. A report on the National convention followed a musical program and an informal discussion on Legion issues.
The study group met last Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stucki with attendees including Mr. and Mrs. Grant Rich, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reeder, Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Pugmire, Mr. Sherman Lowe, Mr. Clifford Price, and the hosts.
The Wednesday evening sewing club met at the home of Dire Irene Wyler chaired the event. Refreshments were carved at the close and the hostess received thanks from the members including Messamies Alicea Hanzan Yvorine Palmer Lovanus Melson Jolma Hansen Bem born Vou Nell Hoffnnd LaWens Wabb Masato Edh Gladys Bateman Keriha Los hme Twila Lewis Tia Lews and the hostess.

Citizens urged to buy bonds for stable value and interest, with notes of local quota totals for Montpelier Paris Bennington Bern Bloomington Dingle Wish Haven Georgetown Geneva Lanark Liberty Wegram Noonan Ovid Raymond and Wardboro. The appeal emphasizes investing now to protect future dollars and sustain Bear Lake’s standing.
World War II veterans will have first preference for training in the Merchant Marine for peacetime careers. Honorably discharged veterans may qualify for deck, engine, or steward training leading to shipboard certification. Non veterans aged 17 to 25 are excluded, while those 26 to 35 may enroll to fill quotas. 16 year olds meeting physical requirements may be considered. 1st Lt Donald Budge is on duty at Headquarters of the Fifth Air Force near Tokyo after 17 months overseas. He served in New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, Oldnenya, and Japan, having re enlisted after a 1943 discharge as staff sergeant. He hopes to be released to civilian status soon.
Grant Rosen and Clifford Stock arrived in the Bretes during the past week, with local officials noting their arrival amid limited readable details from the report.
Mr and Mrs G C Gray of Montpelier died of heart attacks within 12 hours Tuesday. A double service was held at 1 pm Saturday at Community church. Mr Gray, 82, founded the Bank of Montpelier and served as county official and state legislator. Mrs Gray, 78, was active in church and civic work. Burial was in Montpelier cemetery.
A Bloomington couple receives a wartime letter from LeRoy Thornock stationed on Siapan. He describes attending Mormon services on the island, meeting Chaplain Captain Gerald L. Erickson and a Preston Idaho staff sergeant, and notes many companions from Utah and Idaho among about 60 attendees. He hopes to attend services regularly and mentions a letter from Johnny Silvers in Japan.
John Hoge arrives home on Monday having received his honorable discharge from the Army after several months service in the European war theatre.
Ensign and Mrs. Spencer Shortridge welcome a 7 pound 8 ounce baby boy born Wednesday November 21 at Bear Lake Hospital. Mrs. Shortridge is the former Miss Julia Gleigit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Goirey Meight.
The Paris Lions Club has arranged a dinner at the Hotel Paris this Friday evening for members and invited guests. Dr Louis Madsen head of the Animal Husbandry department at USA C in Logan will be the guest speaker. A very fine meeting is anticipated.
The Securities and Exchange Commission seeks to enforce Utah Power and Light Company plan of reorganization, approved by the commission, with a hearing December 19 before Judge Tillman D. Johnson in Utah district court. The plan cancels common and preferred stock, pays $650,000 to Electria Power & Light, exchanges preferred for new common stock, and eliminates ownership by Electric Power & Light and Electric Bond & Share. About 7,600 Utah stockholders hold nearly half of 249,526 preferred shares across Utah, Idaho, Colorado and Wyoming where the company operates.

A luncheon on November 10 at Burgoyne Cafe Montpelier honored Louella Baum Idaho State President of the Auxiliary. Attending were Montpelier and Paris unit executives led by President Crissy Winters and district VP Mary Bagley. Presenters included Laprel Irving who gave Baum a corsage.
Bear Lakers, an active organization on the USAC campus at Logan, has elected DeRay Parker as president for 1945 46. Other officers include Jean Sparks as vice president and Carol Price as secretary treasurer. A Christmas holidays skating party at Montpelier skating rink is planned, inviting all Bear Lake Aggie alumni.
