Bond chairman A Thiel reports Bear Lake county trails the Victory Loan Drive with only 63 4375 dollars sold by week start. Nearly one band remains to reach the target as urgent appeal urges every dollar to be bought today.
John C. Hoke named athletic coach at Montpelier High School arrives to assume duties. He previously led teams in Eads Colorado and Torrington Wyoming, and earned coaching experience through playoff runs. Montpelier will host home games on Fielding floor at Paris until a new gym is built.
Five pound home canning sugar coupons will expire on November 30. Housewives are urged to buy sugar now for later canning use since sugar stamps numbered R-342 will not be valid after this month.
G. B. Tarp Crawford has been hired to coach basketball at Fielding High this year. Practice began Monday with about 40 boys attending, including around five veterans from the past two seasons. Crawford, a former Fielding player who later attended A.C. at Logan, is considered among Fielding's best. A complete schedule is still undecided.
One of the season’s most successful stake wide gatherings was held Saturday November 10 at the Fish Haven recreation hall. Under Cleneth Arnell and Leonora Stucki the event offered canyon party fun indoors with hot dogs marshmallows and drinks. The program featured Arton Pugmire Bryan Boothe Darleen Boothe Leonora Stucki and Darleen Rich plus informal entertaining games and a rotating mixer format. The consensus was the winter social should not be the last of its kind.
Mrs. Myrtle Richards learns her son Dale stationed at Great Lakes Naval Training Station is hospitalized for sinus trouble. Mrs. Blake Jensen of Montpelier moves into Mrs. Ida Smedley’s home awaiting her husband’s arrival. Mrs. Clifford Collings arrives for a short visit after learning her husband has been released from his ship and is en route home.
Garden City Utah resident James Dustin and wife Byrna have five sons who served in the military. Milford remains in Idaho with his family while Blair Arvel Arwell Arnell and Donald completed or near completion long service in Europe and France. Arnell recently discharged from government work in Frankfurt and Donald expects to return home for Christmas.
Shirley Jean Wallentine daughter of Mr and Mrs Leo Wallentine became the wife of Mr Monty Wigginton of Montpelier Thursday evening November 15 at the Charlies Innes home in Paris. Bishop O H Grimmett officiated at 8 o clock with immediate relatives present. The couple will reside in Montpelier where the groom works with his father in trucking. A shower followed Friday evening at the Paris 2nd Ward meeting house humbled in honor of the newlyweds.
Mrs Mildred Moore of Logan spent weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Joe Nye. Mr and Mrs Weldon Grandy traveled to Salt Lake City with daughter Janice who had medical treatment at LDS hospital. Doctrine and Covenants Study group met at Sherman Lowe home with Eugene Stucks Ray Reeder Arlin Pugmire Grant Rich and hosts present. Chas Rogers became owner of the Pendrey building adjoining the Rosen home from Mrs F S Bird and plans to convert it into a Paint Shop after repairs. Wednesday Evening Sewing club gathered at Thelma Michel home. gifts given to hostess. Two Christmas parties planned and refreshments served to numerous ladies including Irene Wyler Viola Mattson Gladys Bateman and others.
On Saturday November 17 Bishop Milford of Garden City led his wife and junior companions to Loran temple for a baptism ritual described as a rite for the dead. Attendees include Rhylus Twitchell Beatty Calder LavWans Papa Delma Ratlerihaane and Nel ds Simwe who vow the memory of Gay will endure.
A Thanksgiving prayer expresses gratitude for peace and liberty and honors those who gave their lives. It details Navy veteran Jay M. Price and the USS San Juan’s post surrender mission to liberate Allied prisoners of war in Tokyo Bay and surrounding areas.
Mrs. Leslie Cole of Logan announces the marriage of her daughter Miss Sybil Cole to Marcel H. Dunn of Manassa Colorado at Taos New Mexico on October 22. The bride, a former Farm Security Administration Home Supervisor, joined the Waves in 1943 and later served with Lt Cole in Chicago and Washington D C before discharge. Sgt Dunn spent three years in England with the Eighth Air Force and has been discharged.
Vernon Ravenscroft urges spring planting for all tree species and warns against fall planting. The University of Idaho will offer nursery stock raised at Moscow Forestry School, available through county agents in spring for windbreaks wildlife cover erosion control and similar uses.
Wayne B Perkins electrician's mate second class from Fish Haven received his honorable discharge from the U S Navy on October 20 1945 at the Separation Center New Orleans Louisiana He enlisted March 25 1943 and served in the Asiatic Pacific theater He earned a Submarine Combat pin with two stars for three patrols and spent twenty months at sea He is a graduate of Fielding High School Paris Idaho
S/Sgt Elden R Pugmire son of Mr and Mrs Ray Pugmire of St Charles Idaho was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Forces at Gowen Field Boise Separation Base after 24 months in the European Theater of World War II. He entered service in May 1942 and was stationed in Yuma Arizona within the Central Flying Training Command at the time of transfer.
Oalel Wicox of Conda visited the Elmer Wilcox home last Saturday. A Salt Lake medical checkup took Mrs. John Scheidegger there Friday, with daughter Pearl Pearce of Lava joining. they returned by bus Monday evening. Out of town guests joined a Shirley Wiggington shower including Mrs. Siver Nielsen Ramona of Ovid Beatrice Arnell Ina and Miss Margie Bolton from St Charles. A Friday pot luck at the Scheidegger home featured many local residents and guests.
Arch M. Thurman, Salt Lake City schools personnel director, told Kiwanis members there is nothing wrong with youth and blamed adults for delinquency. He warned that behind every delinquent lies an adult blunderer, listing possible figures such as ceperent axtescher werd bishop or a Kiwentan.
Six men registered with the Local Board were summoned for pre-induction examinations on November 19 at Fort Douglas. They are Dennis C. Bachler Raymond Neil Conrad Johnson Richard L. Kunz Donald Blair Cook Blair J. Cleveland and Robert H. Burgoyne.
Idaho fish and game department says legally taken game may be kept indefinitely after hunting and fishing seasons end. Officials note seasons have closed in most areas and will finish in all sections, with thousands of deer elk and fish already in possession.
Idaho permits possession of game for as long as the individual desires with storage limited by legal quotas. Modern refrigeration can preserve many months of fish or birds. ducks and geese under federal rules may be kept 90 days. The 90 day period for migratory waterfowl is twice as long as last year, and waste is illegal.
Sgt John H Brewer of St Charles Idaho was discharged at Fort Douglas Separation Center under the adjusted service rating plan after 18 months with the 1828 AAFP Air Transport Command. He is authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon Good Conduct Medal China Burma India Victory Medal and American Theatre Ribbon. Before joining the Army July 28 1942 he taught at Ashton High School Idaho.
The Friday Afternoon Bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Orlean Iness last week. Mrs. Ethel Jensen won high score. Refreshments were served to Mesdames Audrey Monson Bertha Hoge Mona Shepherd Dorothy Tuel ler Inez Tunks Ethel Jensen Mattie Schmid and the hostess.
The county auditor reports that service members have filed their discharge papers since October with many names listed including Montpelier Bloomington and Montpelier residents. Discharges are occurring at about 0 per month and require filing to complete records.
Captain LeGrand Pendrey to be discharged on terminal leave by November 28. He will receive a bronze star and campaign ribbons for actions in European and Pacific theaters. LeGrand, a geology graduate of Fore Wielding High School and the University of Idaho, now works with Standard Gil-Co in the Geological Division with his wife and two children.
Mrs Pauline Cox left Tuesday for Salt Lake to visit. Mrs Beth Perkins and Mrs Wig Lake of Montpelier were guests for Mrs Shirley Wiggins on Friday. Attendees at the Parla temple excursion included Susanna Jaussi Gertrude Price Woodruff Stucks Taft Budge Marla Cole Hannah Humpherys Christian Tueller Adeline Tueller and Ida Smedley.
