Sail SNAKE RIVER 1000 MILES Lewiston Adventure

Two Portland men Amos Berg and Jack Fletcher sailed nearly 1000 miles from Jackson Lake Wyoming to Lewiston via the Snake River. They began Sept 2 in a rubber boat and switched to an 18 foot canoe at Glenn's Ferry, portaging around rapids falls and dams. They described canyon walls rising 7000 feet and lava rock along the river.

Republicans swept county and legislative races with most statewide seats in GOP hands. Early counts showed Patten losing to Grant Young in Weber county and other county offices shifting toward Democrats, including county recorder and four year commissioner candidates, while tax amendments faced opposition in Salt Lake City and county.

Price of Utah Eggs Climbing in New York Market

Utah eggs on the New York market jumped from 39 cents to 53 cents a dozen delivered last week as the Utah Poultry Producers' Cooperative Association plans to pay farmers 53 cents a dozen for eggs. Rushforth said higher payments may come for this week's delivery and noted grade prices of 473 and 33 cents for second and third grades. Egg shipments hold up well though older hens show a slight molt while pullets maintain output.
