Morrell Bunderson Receives Superior Chapter and Public Speaking Honors

At Logan judging event Morrell Bunderson earned the Superior Chapter and Past President awards while receiving a Bronze for outstanding chapter scrapbook. Glen Humpheryn won Chapter and District Public Speaking honors. Booth Wallentine earned State Farmer honors with Lions Club Chain Projects and two purebred Duroc gifts announced later. High waters greet fishermen on opening day

Fishermen will face high waters on opening day Monday June 4 with streams running bankfull from heavy runoff. Most local anglers from this area are expected to fish the Blackfoot River on the opening morning.

Ruth Athay Initiated Into Phi Kappa Phi at BYU

Ruth Athay of Paris was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi at BYU during the annual banquet in Smith Banquet Hall on May 19. The National Honorary Scholastic Society admits the top 10 percent of the graduating class. 63 of 75 nominees accepted this year, BYU’s campus wide chapter distinguishes Phi Kappa Phi from department only groups.

Mobile X Ray Unit Schedule Across Idaho Cities

The Idaho Chest X-ray program, a joint project of the Idaho Tuberculosis Association and the Idaho Department of Public Health, will mass X-ray adults 15 and older. The mobile unit visits Paris, St Charles, Georgetown, and Montpelier in late May and early June, funded by Christmas Seal funds and state money.

Beverly Painter Among BYU Honor Students

Beverly Ann Painter of Bloomington was honored at a BYU reception for high scholastic averages. Ernest Wilkinson congratulated all top students. She has played in the Cougar Marching Band and Varsity Band and served on the Banyan staff while she plans a summer secretarial role for the dean of the College of Recreation, Physical and Health Education.

Hart to Receive Doctor of Medicine Degree at Utah

Douglas Blaine Hart, former Bloomington Idaho resident, will receive the Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Utah at the June 4 1956 commencement. He earned a U of U B S in 1953, captained track, and plans internship at Thomas D Dee Memorial Hospital Ogden. He is the third Hart to graduate from the U. and comes from a family with Rhodes Scholar and Tribune editor siblings.

Retiring 2nd Ward Relief Presidency Honored

A social was held Tuesday May 29 at 2 pm in the Paris 2nd Ward church honoring Mrs Lauriel Athay and Mrs Lavern Lewis retiring from the ward Relief Society presidency. Also honored was Blanche Parker who served with outgoing officers and will help with the new presidency. Refreshments followed. Local notices mention relatives visiting and weather moisture totals.

Funeral Services Held For Magnus Erickson

Funeral services for Magnus Erickson were held Wednesday May 23 at 1 p.m. in the Fish Haven ward chapel with Donovan Howell conducting. Prelude music by Melba Pugmire, vocal solo by Leonard Perkins, life history by Loyde Simmonds, and readings by Don Erickson’s son in law. Various speakers and musical tributes accompanied by local singers and relatives. Interment followed at Fish Haven cemetery with dedication of the grave by Alton Kearl.

Idaho Farmers Eligible for 2c Gas Tax Refund

Beginning July 1 farmers may file for a 2c per gallon federal gasoline tax refund for farm use. Claims must be filed between July 1 and October 1 for purchases from January 1 to June 30, 1956. Beginning July 1, 1957, refunds cover a full year.

The Potash Company of America seeks to start preliminary operations within 12 months on either a treble superphosphate plant or an elemental phosphorus facility in Utah or Idaho.
