The leadership gathering for the stake and ward Melchizedek Priesthood committees is rescheduled with a Sunday session at 10 am and 2 pm in the stake tabernacle. Seminary graduation remains set for Sunday evening at 7.
Idaho schools face a critical teaching shortage as of May 1 1957 with 594 unfilled positions and 157 temporary teachers needed for next year. Superintendent reports show 30 contracts pending and vacancies across districts after limited survey responses.
Librarian Fen Wallentine reports arrival of traveling library books, with more adult titles than usual. Books become available on the first with two week borrowing periods and requests for careful handling. The piece notes visits from Mr and Mrs Hart and others, plus relatives in Montpelier and Paria.

Fielding High School alumni honor the graduating class of 1966 with a Commencement Dance on Thursday evening May 24 in the Paris Pavilion. All Alumni members are invited to renew acquaintances and enjoy music by the Cliffs from Star Valley after graduation exercises.
The Bear Lake Rangers announce a steak supper on Thursday May 24 at the Iri Nye carbin on the lake shore. All new and old members are urged to attend the supper at 8 pm. the event had previously been announced for May 17.
Bear Lake Basin Highway 89ers Club schedules a dinner meeting at Lakota Resort on Monday evening May 21. President Mark G Pagmire says a brief business session will precede the election of a new board of directors. Tickets available at Lakota Resort Marks Service Jewel Motel and Lee Wedel In ner. Dinner served at 8 p.m.
Bloominton residents visit relatives in Ogden and nearby towns over the weekend. A Mother's Day program in Sunday School directed by Victor Reese and Violet Nelson featured individual plant gifts to mothers. Multiple families from Paris Blackfoot Montpelier and Soda Springs joined others in weekend visits and a Priesthood party at Fielding High School.
The Bear Lake County Board of Commissioners weighs a countywide Bangs eradication program for beef and dairy cattle. It would test dairy stock over 30 months, sample 20 percent of beef herds, test purebred herds, vaccinate calves, and indemnify reactors with up to 50 dollars for registered cattle. Public meetings will be announced soon.
The weekly moisture total reached 0.98 inch, per Weldon E Grandy, bringing since May 1 to 1.56 inches. Snow fell Sunday but melted quickly. about 6 inches fell on Emigration Canyon road Sunday morning. The south highway under construction was unfit for moisture and motorists were towed through new earth-filled spots for days.
Miss E Hope Ausell received a service salute on May 26 for sixteen years of continuous work at the Montpelier exchange starting as an operator in 1941 and transferring to the Commercial department in 1947 as a service representative.
Fielding High School holds graduation Thursday evening May 24 at 8 pm in the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle. Eugene E Campbell of the Logan LDS Institute gives the commencement address. 41 students graduate with diplomas awarded after the program of chants songs and addresses by faculty and students.
The national minimum price support for 1956 crop wheat is set at 200 dollars per bushel, about 83 percent of parity as of July 1 1956. The rate applies to 36 commercial wheat states, with 75 percent of the commercial rate in 12 smaller states. Previous figures and local price notes are included. next class grade differentials will be announced as locality data are finalized.
Winners of the 1956 Idaho Farm Bureau talk meet earn a trip to Miami with expenses paid to represent Idaho at the American Farm Bureau Federation convention and National Talk Meet in December. Local events include June 11 Paris, June 16 St Charles, and July 4 County Farm Bureau talent shows with prizes for readings, skits, music, and voices.
One hundred sixty two Bear Lake students will graduate at a Friday morning ceremony on May 25 at 10 o clock in the Bear Lake Grade Tabernacle. Professor L. R. Humpherys of Campus Instruction USAC Logan will give the commencement address.
A local board called for one man for physical examination and induction in May. James Andre Dimick of Montpelier was sent to Boise on May 10 for his medical exam. William Van Speirs of Bennington left Paris on May 15 to enter the Armed Forces induction process.
Soil Conservation cooperators seed sweet clover with spring grain on dryland to create a green manure crop for next year. Growth is sparse in year one but by mid June of year two reaches 12 to 14 inches and is plowed under to enrich soil nitrogen and organic matter, as explained by J. G Kennard of the Soil Conservation Service.
Fielding FFA sent judging teams to Utah State contests in Logan May 4 6 competing in farm mechanics meats poultry livestock and dairy livestock events. New officers for next year will be installed May 22 led by president Robert Transtrum and others including Neil Morgan Conrad Michaelson Jay Johnson Glen Humpherys and Ronald Morgan. The Idaho State Judging contests are planned for late June as teams prepare for future events.
Sunday dinner guests at the Dewey Jensen home included Calvin Smedley family and Garna, Douglas Arnell, and Alice Jensen. Logan shoppers stopped by with Earl Pugmire, Alice Jensen, and Orean Sock. Ray Stock returned with Clifford Stock for a short visit after meeting him at Salt Lake airport. Local social ties extend to Laketown, Montpelier, and Bern with various family visits and Mother's Day gatherings noted.
The MIA Stake Music and Speech Festival runs Saturday May 19 at 7 30 p.m. in the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle. Irene Wyler and Nora B Stephens co chair the event. Bear Lake Stake Choir with Ruby Bolton directing and Leonora Stucki on organ will perform. The evening features a double mixed quartet, narrators Juanita Smart and LaVell G Ward, Voice of Scripture Glen Humpherys, and Georgie Hardy presenting Pauls speech before Agrippa. Speakers include Marlys Athay Dayle Mattson Booth Vallentine and Mildred Hart. Special MIA awards will be presented by stake board members. Attendance urged.
A May 1 reception at Laketown recreation hall celebrated the Weston marriage. Guests included Lorin and Mrs Weston, Maurice and Mrs Beck of Ovid, Reed Willis as best man, Darlene Kearl maid of honor, with bridesmaids and extensive gifts and refreshments managed by local family members. Archie's Wolf Pack provided music as Lorin Weston announced a brief program. Out of town guests arrived from Ogden Logan Sugar City Smithfield Arimo and Salt Lake. many relatives attended.
