First Sergeant Neil T. Kinnear Jr. of the Marine Corps Recruit Substation will interview interested young men at the Selective Service Office in Paris on May 10, 1961 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A new program lets high school seniors enlist now and finish school at home, counting toward service time, promotions, and pay raises. The Marine also offers guaranteed aviation training for qualified applicants after a written exam.

Teddy H. Garoutte Machinist's Mate First Class USN reported to the U S Navy Recruiting Station Pocatello Idaho on April 14 1961 for duty. The first Idaho Air Breakfast of the 1961 season will be sponsored by Preston on Sunday May 21 under the State Department of Aeronautics. Chet Moulton notes 29 communities have sponsored 68 breakfasts drawing 6924 aircraft and transporting 20,772 people with over 100 equator miles of travel. Extension sought for FHA livestock loan authority
Senator Frank Church and Senator Frank Moss introduced a bill to extend Farmers Home Administration authority to make large livestock loans using the existing emergency loan revolving fund. The program, funded without new appropriations, has loaned about 90 million dollars with over 93 percent repaid, helping western livestock growers amid drought and rising costs.
