Master Sergeant Veriel C. Beck of Ovid Idaho received the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement with the Ninth Air Force 406th P-47 Raider group in Belgium tijdens the Ardennes counter-offensive. He and his crew loaded bombs cleaned guns and maintained armament during combat aiding the 101st Airborne at Bastogne. Beck joined the army in 1941 and trained at Lowry Field and Savannah Army Air Base before joining the Raider unit in 1943 and going overseas.

Mrs. Henry W. Shirley of Fish Haven died Saturday in a Logan hospital after a major operation. Born in Garden City Utah in 1897 she moved with her husband to Fish Haven later to Evanston Wyoming where he worked for the railroad. Survived by husband two daughters Norma and Calice a son 2/c Evan W Shirley US Navy and a granddaughter along with her parents four sisters and a grand mother. Funeral was held Wednesday in the Fish Haven chapel.
