Waste paper drive returns tally for Boy Scout troops in 1945

Returns from the February 19 waste paper shipment show payments being sent to Bear Lake County Boy Scout troops. The drive earned commendation from the State Galvage committee for meeting its quota, with groups listing varied tonnage delivered and a call to continue saving paper for future needs.

Gold and Green Ball Draws Stakewide Ward Delegation

The Bear Lake Stake Mutual Improvement association held its annual Gold and Green Ball at the Paris Pavilion on Friday March 30. Queen and Prince Charming escorts represented all eleven wards with Mary Ann West Nareese Athay Loana Barrus Le Rae Stevens and Gwen Collings among corsage recipients. Wendell Shepherd served as Spirit of the Ball and announced events. Continuous floor shows featured Laketown Miktdal under Carl Norris and ward members. The Hugh Shepherd orchestra provided the music for the evening.

Quarterly Dairy Feed Subsidy Payments In April

Dairy subsidy payments are issued quarterly. January February and March payments will be processed in April through the county AAA office at 60 cents per hundredweight for whole milk and 10 cents per pound for butterfat for cream or butter.

Montpelier Lions Win Outlaw Cage Tournament

The Montpelier Lions club team won the Paris Lions club sponsored Outlaw basketball tourney with a 44 to 33 final over Paris Lions. Georgetown took third by edging Montpelier Seniors 33 to 32 in overtime. Consolation went to St. Charles 40 to 29 over Paris Town. Five dollar sportsmanship award to Liberty team.

Former Paris Boy Killed on Iwo Jima

Sgt. William Lee Holmes 24, son of Mr and Mrs Will R Holmes, reported killed on Iwo Jima February 20. Former Paris resident, editor of The Paris Post Set was born July 6 1920 in Brigham City. A Box Elder high school graduate, he worked as an typographer at The Salt Lake Tribune before joining the Marines. He served 14 months at sea before overseas service in October 1944. Survived by his widow and two week old son, plus five sisters and two grandparents.

Impressive Funeral Services Held March 28th for Mrs Ivy Langford Shirley

Funeral services were held in Fish Haven for Mrs Ivy Langford Shirley at 2 p m under Bishop Owen R Stock. Vocalists included Mr and Mrs Donovan Howell and Mrs Fontella Scofield with Ruth Pugmire at the piano. Speakers praised her character and faith in front of a large gathering. Interment followed in Fish Haven cemetery with many relatives and friends from Garden City Laketown Cokeville Paris Logan Montpelier and Evanston in attendance. A farewell social for Coach Ivan Willmore was held March 24 at the Bonham home with gifts and games.

P. T. A. Meeting and Program on April 11th

A P T A meeting and program will be held Wednesday April 11 at 8 o clock the public is invited. Officers for the coming year will be elected and the program includes two tap dances by third grade creative art by second grade ballroom dancing by sixth grade and a report on school safety patrol by Bobby Wilcox followed by a safety speech by Lester Allred.

1945 Idaho fish and game licenses on sale statewide

Licenses for 1945 are distributed to vendors statewide and available by April 1. Resident licenses cost $2 for six months of residency, non residents pay $5 for a full fishing license, $2 for a 10 day license, or $50 for a full fish and game license. Aliens may pay $10 for a fishing license or $75 for a full license. An alien bird license at $15 begins next fall. Trout season starts May 21 across Idaho. Exceptions apply for certain residents without licenses and armed forces personnel.
