Round About the Town lists multiple weekend visitors to Logan including Alvin Carless who recently bought the Birch Barber Shop at 527 North Main. It notes hospital recoveries, missions, and various family visits across Idaho Wyoming and Utah, with several residents traveling to Provo and Mesa for medical and temple activities.
Notice: Olnass A School District No. 33 will hold a special meeting April 3 1961 at 8 pm at Montpelier High School. There will be no public hearings on the maintenance and operation budget for the upcoming year. The current budget is available in the district office until the meeting.
Miss Evelyn Hansen Home Service Director of Utah Power and Light Co will lead a lighting school on March 29 at 1 30 pm at A J Winters School. Sponsored by Bear Lake County Home Demonstration Council and Extension Service the program covers basic eye saving lighting features for home and study use. Hansen has held roles from Home Service advisor to director and is a Utah State University graduate who taught home economics at Topéle High School.
An open house will be held at the home of George Ward on April 1 to celebrate his 80th birthday. Friends and relatives are invited to call between 2 and 4 pm with no gifts requested.
Community updates include Glen Olsen moving to Idaho Falls and family trips to Salt Lake City for Joyce Benson's hospital care. Relief Society events feature embroidery and a March party with performances by local dance groups and a skit. Hospital visits note Harley Peterson's major surgery and Don Jensen's Bear Lake hospital admission.
Four Fielding students Rodney Vallen tine Charles Piggott Eleanor Rich and Pamela Grimmett plus adviser Mr Wilkes attended a Pre Legislative Youth Convention in Pocatello February 10. They will also attend the Idaho State YMCA Youth Legislature in Boise April 14-15. The convention was led by Clark B Carlile associate professor of speech with Gerald Olson educating on drafting bills and presenting them to a legislative body. Principal speaker was George De Hoff president of Magic Valley Christian College Albion speaking on freedom and economic well being.
Bear Lake County American Red Cross announces the Montpelier blood drawing date moved from March 23 1961 to Wednesday June 28 1961 at Moose Hall from 1 to 5 PM Chairman George W Warren notes the change for Montpelier residents.
Bids will be accepted for a cemetery caretaker in St Charles until April 5 1961. The City Board reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids. Arlen Rasmuszen Village Clerk
The Paria Second Ward Relief Society held its annual party at Ward Chapel with dinner at 7 30 p m. Vesta H Eborn gave a welcome address and Bishop Clifford G Price gave the invocation. Master of ceremonies Glen Grimmett introduced a program featuring solos skits dancing and a log cabin backdrop painting by Irene Mumford.
A call is issued for a Nominating Convention to nominate a mayor and council members for Paris Idaho. The meeting will be on Thursday April 6 1961 at 8 PM in the Fielding High School auditorium. Election is set for April 25 1961. Attest City Clerk Fred J Price.
Western Wyoming Hereford breeders plan their annual spring sale at Kemmerer on April 27 with a pre-sale show that morning judged by Dr. M P Botkin. consignors include Covey Day ton Cokeville O Neil Ranches Big Piney Geo Bugas Fort Bridger Star Valley Hereford Ranch Thayne Winfield Burton Afton Arnold Vaarsen Opal Michell Herefords Fort Bridger Joe Hickey Lone Tree and Saxton Brothers Evanston. Bulls are serviceable age brucellosis and tuberculosis tested and a free lunch will be provided at the sale pavilion.
Neighborhood events unfold in Montpelier with a bront demonstration at the high school, birthday dinner at the LeRoy Ward home, and visits from Pearl Patterson and Mrs Dean DeEtte from Salt Lake City. The Home Arts Club met at Carol Ward’s with Edyth Ward co hosting and a talk on high altitude cooking.
Recognition has been given to Marilyn Mattson Karen Hymas Cheryl Crawford Eleanor Rich Marilyn Ward Diana Lewis Jean Bunderdon and Diane Hymas Kelly Matthews as NHS members. Seniors top fifteen percent and juniors top five percent win this honor each year. Membership is based on scholarship leadership character and service.
Utah Power and Light joins 78 other electric utilities in probing how price fixing by major manufacturers may have affected operations. President E. M. Naughton says a committee will study prices charged by firms recently sentenced for price fixing and assess costs if the conspiracy had not existed. The process will be joint, with findings shared to help each utility protect its interests.
The Felding Chapter hosted its annual FFA Parents and Sons Banquet on March 16 in the high school gym, serving about 165 guests. President W. K. Matthews spoke as a ladies quartet performed, with Cheryl Crawford giving a reading and Jay Callister addressing attendees. Honorary Chapter Farmer Degrees were presented to Walter Ward James Hawkes and H. K. Matthews. Aly and Dave Gerber prepared the meal, served by the freshman home economics class.
A farewell testimonial honoring Daniel O. Rich, son of Mr and Mrs Grant Rich, will be held March 26 at 7 30 p m in the Paris Chapel. Elder Rich plans to enter the Mission Home April 16 before departing for the Eastern Atlantic States Mission.
The Spartanettes closed a busy season of drills and entertainment at football and basketball games with a halftime performance during the Fielding Spartans versus Bancroft game on March 3. Led by Eleanor Rich and Karen Hymag, the group prepared intricate marching routines and provided school and community entertainment while re organizing from Pep Club to a separate unit with its own constitution.
The Idaho Division American Cancer Society holds the Montpelier County conference at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier High School auditorium for volunteers and workers. Frank Hirsohi will give the opening prayer, O T Parker will welcome attendees, and Millie Grockett Bus will present a service report. Dr William Bumnel of Salt Lake City will speak on cancer in the chest at 3 p.m. Slides will be shown.
Misa Marie Ward of Paris was among 45 freshmen who received their caps and took the nurses oath in a ceremony at Ricks College. Cameras flashed as student nurses ascended the stage to accept their caps, then repeated the nursing pledge. Gaye Lynn Goodman sang a solo as Dr. Delbert W. Lindsay presided and Dr. M. F. Rigby spoke as Ricks College physician and board member.
Sheriff Cliff Skinner joins police and conservation officers at the Idaho Law Enforcement Training Academy held this week at Idaho State College. The 30 hour advanced session runs Monday to Friday, with a luncheon and certificates for completing officers. Sponsored by Idaho Municipal League Idaho Peace Officers Association and the FBI.
A farewell service was held in Garden City on Sunday night March 19 for Elder Clinton Tremelling son of Mr and Mrs Clinton Tremelling before his departure to the Southwest Indian Mission. The event featured music including Mattie Price and Jackie Vallentine, readings by La Grande Tremelling and Bishop Mitchell Lima, a sacrament song, and a closing hymn.
The Bear Lake Valley Dairymen's Cooperative holds its annual meeting Saturday March 25 at Fielding High School with lunch at 11 45 am and the session to begin at 1 pm Speaker Lloyd Hunsaker of the USA Extension Service will address producers urged to attend the meeting
