Prominent Physician to Speak at Montpelier Cancer Conference

The American Cancer Society Bear Lake County chapter hosts a volunteer training session at Montpelier High School auditorium on March 25. Registration starts at 1 pm with a 2 pm guest talk by Dr. William R. Rumel of the Rumel Chest Clinic in Salt Lake City on cancer in the chest. The public is invited to attend the 2 pm session.

Agnes Brook er funeral held in Garden City

Funeral services for Mrs. Agnes Norris Brook er were conducted Thursday March 9 1961 in Garden City after she died last week in Evanston Wyoming The service included prayers invocation by Garden City Singing Mothers with musical numbers and tributes from Bishop Mitchell Sims Archie Parker and others Pallbearers were named and a luncheon followed at the Garden City Amusement Hall hosted by the Relief Society

Emerson and Fielding P T A Joint Meeting

A joint meeting of Fielding and Emerson P T A was held March 9 at Fielding High School auditorium at 7 30 pm. Mrs Blanche Piggott presided. The program featured The Testing Time narrated by Paul Harvey and bands from Emerson and Fielding High Schools under Kit McBride. The meeting adjourned until April.

New Benefits for Broken Enlistments Announced

Chief Bill Williams of the Pocatello Navy Recruiting Branch says reenlistments in 64 General Service and 47 Submarine ratings may be accepted in their previous rating for up to four years after discharge. Normal reenlistment bonuses remain unchanged. For details contact Chief Williams. Program expires June 30, 1961.

Kraft Employee Honored for 10 Years of Service

Wilford R. Monson of the Kraft Foods plant in Paris received a gold Kraft emblem tie bar and a service citation for ten years of continuous work. The ceremony on March 9 was attended by coworkers and executives, with the program dating back to 1945 and signed by President J. O. Loftis. Monson resides in St. Charles.

Relief Society Party Planned for Friday in Ward Chapel

The Paris Second Ward Relief Society announces a Friday event at the Ward chapel. Supper will be served at 7:30 p.m. followed by a program. All married people in the ward are invited to attend the supper and the public is invited to the program.

Former Paris Man Passes Away in Utah

John Bateman 86, former Paris resident, died in Logan hospital from age related causes. Born July 11, 1874 in Almy Wyoming he lived in Paris then Logan. Survived by sons Alfred, George, Leroy, Horace, Rae. daughters Lucile Johnson and Thelma Leatham and Ethel Jones plus 28 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Funeral held March 11 at Hal Mortuary Logan with burial Wellsville cemetery.

Fielding Spartans Place Well in District BB Play

Fielding High School Spartans placed third in the AA basketball tournament under coaches Richard Robbs and Wallace James. They beat Grace Red Devils 45 to 41, then defeated district champions North Gem 46 to 42 before falling to American Falls 59 to 47 and North Gem 61 to 48. Grimmett Lumber Co Robbed Friday Night

Sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning the Grimmett Lumber and Hardware store back door was jimmied open. Tools, fishing rods, and hunting knives valued at over $200 were taken. Local officers investigated Saturday morning. Lloyd Passey and Marian Parker discovered the altered fishing rod barrel and security breach.

Brother in law of Paris woman dies

Mrs Darwin Haddock received word of the death of Fred L Barker of San Francisco California husband of her sister Nora Parker. Barker a Paris resident until 1919 was a life member of the Peace Officers Association of California and is survived by his widow a son a daughter three grandchildren and two great grandchildren Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
