The American Cancer Society Bear Lake County chapter hosts a volunteer training session at Montpelier High School auditorium on March 25. Registration starts at 1 pm with a 2 pm guest talk by Dr. William R. Rumel of the Rumel Chest Clinic in Salt Lake City on cancer in the chest. The public is invited to attend the 2 pm session.

Former Paris Man Passes Away in Utah
John Bateman 86, former Paris resident, died in Logan hospital from age related causes. Born July 11, 1874 in Almy Wyoming he lived in Paris then Logan. Survived by sons Alfred, George, Leroy, Horace, Rae. daughters Lucile Johnson and Thelma Leatham and Ethel Jones plus 28 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Funeral held March 11 at Hal Mortuary Logan with burial Wellsville cemetery.

They beat Grace Red Devils 45 to 41, then defeated district champions North Gem 46 to 42 before falling to American Falls 59 to 47 and North Gem 61 to 48. Barker a Paris resident until 1919 was a life member of the Peace Officers Association of California and is survived by his widow a son a daughter three grandchildren and two great grandchildren Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
