Extension Granted Over Seas Servicemen on Income Tax Obligations

Secretary Morgenthau announced an amendment extending income tax postponement for overseas military personnel. The extension lasts until a serviceman returns to the United States for five and a half calendar months, not counting the return month, easing furloughs and retraining periods between overseas assignments. The change follows War Department consultation and replaces the prior three and a half month rule. The tax laws exempt the first 6100 of active service pay, so most personnel owe no taxes.
