Bear Lake Agent Kerns Wins Cornell Scholarship
Robert D. Kerns Bear Lake county agricultural agent has won a National 4-H Foundation scholarship to a Cornell University course from July 1 to August 10. The program is funded by Sears Roebuck and limits one extension worker per state. He will return to Bear Lake duties after completion. He previously served in Twin Falls county and engages in community activities and music with his wife Lynn and two daughters.

Camp Elizabeth Passey of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers held a June 20 meeting at Edith Haddock’s home. Twelve members and a visitor attended a potluck lunch, then Ias Collings reorganized the camp. Officers were elected by acclamation. a marker for Emmigration Canyon was discussed and the meeting adjourned for fall.

The Bear Lake County Class A School District No. 33 bond election failed by a large margin with 882 yes and 1347 no as results came in, only 39.5 percent in favor overall. Montpelier precinct reported 761 yes and 144 no, the only favorable precinct. Idaho Falls hosted the Idaho chapter NA Postmasters convention with David H. Stephens as speaker. Idaho Wool Prices Rise for 1956 57 Marketing Year
The Crop Reporting Board reports Idaho farmers received an average of 45 cents per pound for shorn wool during the 1956 57 marketing year from April 1956 to March 1957, up from 42.8 cents in 1955 and below the 54.7 cent long term average. Prices ranged 41 to 42 cents April September, climbed to 61.4 cents by March 1957 as more wool was sold.

Fire destroys Bob Calder home in Garden City Utah
At five o clock last Saturday morning the home of Mr and Mrs Bob Calder in Garden City Utah was completely destroyed by fire. The origin is believed to be from the electric wiring and was first discovered by their daughter Mary who was sleeping upstairs. Help from townspeople rushed to the scene and most furnishings were salvaged though the house burned to the ground. Loss amounts are not yet determined.

Record Native Cutthroat Caught At Blackfoot Reservoir
Phil Adderl y of Salt Lake City landed a 23.5 pound native cutthroat trout at Blackfoot Reservoir last Sunday. The 36 inch long fish with an 18 inch girth is claimed to be the reservoir’s largest on record, caught while trolling a daredevil lure.

Bear Lake Rangers report plans for a two day July 3 and 4 celebration in Paris featuring a 1 p m horse show and races on July 8 plus a 6 am to 10 am chuckwagon breakfast at Emerson school park.
