Reception in Bloomington recreation hall that evening. The couple plan a honeymoon trip through Montana and the Dakotas and will reside in Liberty.

Lightning Ignites Fire During Forest Fire Prevention Meeting

27 Forest Service personnel led by R E Crowell attended a fire prevention meeting at Emerson school when lightning struck the Paris District Ranger station radio tower. The lightning tripped lines, the attic caught fire, and volunteers and local fire units responded quickly. Fire Chief George Ramey directed efforts that saved the Ranger Station office, with damage estimated around 200 dollars to the building and undetermined radio equipment loss.

Services for Ola Jensen Held in St. Charles

Ola Jensen 82 longtime St. Charles resident died Sunday June 22 at his sister’s home. Born July 3 1875 in Degeberga Sweden he came to America in 1884 and lived in the area most of his life. He was active in the L D S church and served in multiple church roles. Survived by sister Mrs Ida Windley and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p m in the St Charles ward chapel.

Idaho and Utah farmers approved wheat marketing quotas near the national average the Agriculture Department reported. In Idaho the vote stood 79.8 percent yes with 3 434 yes 803 no and 76 challenges. last year 4 640 votes produced 82.5 percent yes.

Boy, 2, Drowns in Montpelier Canal

Stewart Jacobson two year old son of Mr and Mrs Lorraine Jacobson of 483 Jefferson street Montpelier drowned in an irrigation ditch near his home about 6 o clock Wednesday afternoon. The body was found trapped under a bridge over the ditch after the boy was reported missing.

Bear Lake County Fair Buildings Ready for August Opening

Renovation and repair work proceeds for the Bear Lake County Fair to be held August 28 29 and 30 at the county fair grounds in Montpelier. Improvements include new fencing to enclose the grounds with Reed Hymas as Fair Board chairman and Bennett Sneddon as secretary.

Sheriff O E Monson challenged three roaming groups offering septic tank cleaning and roof painting at high fees. One group used multiple car plates and fake Salt Lake business cards, while another routed a $50 refund after pumping 150 gallons from a septic tank. Residents urged to call only vetted local services.

El Dean Lewis and Mardell Sparks Married in Paris

Miss El Dean Lewis daughter of Mr and Mrs Elden Lewis and Mardell Sparks were married at the bride’s parents home last Saturday evening June 21 with Bishop Clifford Skinner officiating. Best man was Cal Gandy and the bride’s attendant was Mrs Calvin Gandy. Guests included immediate relatives and close friends. They left for a short honeymoon and a wedding shower is planned at the Paris Second ward hall tonight. The couple will make their home in Dingle.

Funeral Services for Melvin Peterson in Ovid

Funeral services were held in the Ovid ward chapel for Melvin Peterson a 58 year old World War I veteran and longtime Ovid resident who died Saturday morning in Salt Lake Veterans Hospital after a March stroke. Interment followed at Ovid cemetery with American Legion rites. He was survived by his widow four daughters a son two brothers two sisters and two grandchildren.

Chicago Relatives Visit Alfred Rogers Home

The Rogers family from Chicago gathered at the Alfred Rogers cabin on Bear Lake for a weekend reunion. Attending were Mr and Mrs Alfred Bailey Mr and Mrs George Crist Mrs Del Redington and Mrs LaThair Peterson from nearby towns along with Dr and Mrs Rogers. Kenneth Rogers left for a two and half year mission in Central America.

Transient Juveniles to Be Arraigned on Theft Charges

Three transient juvenile boys arrested at Green River Wyoming and held for Bear Lake officers were returned to Paris for arraignment before Judge E W Stucki. They face theft charges for stealing an auto wheel and tire from a car registered to one boy’s mother. The car, sold to a Wyoming man after failure at Little America, is to be recovered by the finance company.

Preston Thomas Re-Elected Head Of Legion Post 84

Bear Lake Post 84 American Legion held its steak fry and officer elections at Paris canyon park on June 20. Commander Preston Thomas was re elected to lead the post with Owen Watterson as vice commander and Walter Ward adjutant. Delegates to the Boise state convention July 18 to 20 include Thomas Ward and Hawkes with alternates Hoge Roghaar and Payne.

Automobile Stolen Twice In One Trip Returned To Owner

An ex convict abandoned a car in St Charles on Wednesday June 11 after a five hour swamp chase by Sheriff Monson. Washington state police traced the owner Bert L Wheeler in Oroville and he recovered the car with its outboard motor still in the trunk. Wheeler had borrowed the motor for fishing and feared buying a new one for his friend. Bear Lake residents saw the car bearing a British Columbia plate returned to Wheeler who had previously had it stolen twice.

Right to Work Group Postpones Petitions to July 3

The Idaho Freedom to Work committee postponed filing initiative petitions to July 3. Fred Smith reported about 26,000 signatures gathered plus 2,000 on file. The delay allows more signatures before the filing, with 22,869 required to qualify for the November ballot.

The TooWiDa district held its annual two day camporee at Porcupine Forest Camp on June 20 and 21. Nearly 100 Scouts from valley troops attended with leaders from all local units.
