Grassman of the Year candidate tour set for July 1
Ferris Kunz Grassman, Bear Lake County, is named Idaho Grassman of the Year candidate. The Grassman Tour on July 1 will depart Montpelier City Hall at 9:00 am for Bear Lake Stockmen's Ranch via Georgetown Canyon and Slug Creek to study grass production and management. The event, sponsored by the Idaho Chamber of Commerce and Idaho Power Company, includes a Dutch-oven dinner and discussions led by Ranger Tat Smith.

Eighteen Scouts from Troop 667 of St Charles planted about 500 trees in Swan Lake area under Forest Ranger Ted Knowles and Scoutmaster Elzo Bunderson to earn Conservation of Natural Resources merit badge. Flora S Rich Succumbs To Long Illness
Flora Shepherd Rich 80, former Paris and Montpelier resident, died June 16 in a Pocatello hospital after an extended illness. Born July 31, 1888 in Paris, she married Earl O Rich in 1909. he preceded her. She lived in Pocatello since 1920 and led the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in that city. Survived by three sons Wendell, Donald, and Max, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a brother in Salt Lake City, and three sisters. Funeral services were held at the Sixth Ward Chapel, Pocatello, with graveside rites in Paris Cemetery.

Progress is slow due to placing and compacting fill around the outlet conduit. concrete grout pumping into bedrock will begin in early July to finish the west end foundation. The creek will be diverted through the outlet conduit next week to allow storage of irrigation water.

Mont. airman wins top defense unit honor
Great Falls Montana radar technician Technical Sergeant Parley E. Hayes of the 779th Radar Squadron at Opheim Air Force Station is part of the 28th Air Division based at Malmstrom AFB. The unit earned the General Fredric H. Smith Trophy as the command’s best ground defense unit. Hayes is the son of Mr and Mrs Leslie E Hayes of Georgetown. He is a 1953 Montpelier High School graduate and is married to Carl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Lewis Thompson of Blackfoot.
