Two Accidents Injure Several People Near Bear River

Last Friday about 8 30 a.m. a head on collision on US 89 near Montpelier injured several people. Effie Stock of Fish Haven drove in the wrong lane and Cliff Sizemore of Paris skidded off the road before impact. Both were taken to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Stock was released the next day. Sizemore remained hospitalized with multiple injuries.

Collision injures five in Bear Lake area

At 2 30 p m Sunday La Priel Athay crossed US 89 at 2nd South when her car was broadside by Robert D Hull of Preston. Athay and four grandchildren were hospitalized for cuts and bruises with Jacqualin Athay seven treated for a head cut. Damages were eight hundred dollars to Athays car and four hundred to Hulls vehicle. Citations issued for speeding in a 35 mph zone and a stop sign violation.

Mrs Bert Orr Victim of Fall in Idaho

Mrs Bert Orr 89 of Montpelier died in a Pocatello hospital after injuries from a June 4 fall. Born March 7 1880 in Hyde Park Utah she lived in Sharon before moving to Montpelier in 1951. Funeral held Thursday in Montpelier with interment in Sharon Cemetery. Survived by Bert Orr Leora Orr Larry Orr and five Covert stepchildren.

City of Paris reminds drivers a 25 mph speed limit applies on all streets unless posted. City officials warn that the limit will be enforced.

Right Decision wins Era of Youth writing prize for Beck

The 19 year old Mardens Beck of Ovid wins $50 for The Right Decision in The Era Era of Youth competition. The story portrays Mormon young women choosing civil ceremony or eternal marriage taught by the LDS Church. Beck, daughter of Mrs. Edris Beck, graduated Fielding High School and attends Brigham Young University.

Wool Loaded June 18 at Union Pacific Dock

Bear Lake County wool from county growers will be loaded on June 18 at the Union Pacific Railroad loading dock. Wool may be stored in the warehouse if properly tagged and the railroad is contacted for storage.

Warning to Motorists on Highway 89 Bridges

Idaho State Police official Ed Chadwell warns motorists crossing the center line on the Highway 89 bridges between Ovid and Montpelier will receive citations for driving left of center. Re markings followed a weekend accident. bridges allow only two cars to pass with care. Bridges over Bear River and Bear Lake Canal slated for widening.

Phelps Dies in Bear Lake Hospital

Well known Bear Lake builder and contractor Ivan O. Phelps 65 died at 6 30 a m Wednesday June 11th at Bearake Memorial Hospital after a heart attack suffered May 27th Born May 15 1904 in Montpelier he spent his life there and designed buildings He married Ruth Schmid December 31 1930 Survived by widow two daughters Mrs Dale Taylor and Mrs Nancy Hansen a sister Mrs Tamara Parrott and brother Rue O Phelps Funeral services set for Saturday June 14 at 1 00 pm at the Montpelier Third Fifth LDS Ward Chapel Interment in Montpelier City Cemetery.

Governor to Speak to Idaho State Employees Convention

Governor Don Samuelson will address the Idaho State Employees Association General Council in Burley at the Ponderosa Inn on June 20 and 21. Tom Enright will speak at the Friday luncheon. Delegates from 17 chapters will discuss wage, cost of living, early retirement, and benefits policies for the coming year. The Gateway Chapter hosts the convention.

The Garden City 4-H Club met Tuesday at 2:00 at leader Bess Hueffner's home. Julie Stringham served as reporter, with officers named. The lesson was given by leader Bess Hueffner, and Kevin Dustin and Glen Hansen provided Kool-aid for refreshments followed by a softball game.

Driver License Hearing Set in Bear Lake County

Public hearing scheduled at the Bear Lake County Courthouse in Paris on Wednesday June 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. to discuss House Bill 341 a recodification of driver licensing procedures.
