Paris Lions Club Installs Officers At Picnic Meeting

The Paris Lions Club installed new officers for the coming year at a picnic in Paris Park after a June gathering. President Floyd Lewis and fellow officers Ralph Roghaar Bob Allison Charles Wyte r and Tom Johnston were named with directors Glen Grimmett Willard Hansen. Delegates Darwin Vallentine and Tom Johnston reported on the Lions convention at Sun Valley. Attendance pins were awarded to nine members and Ralph Roghaar received a ten year pin. Mr. and Mrs Keith Varner received GIs as they prepare to move to Denver.

Bride-to-be honored with tea and gifts in Garden City

Mrs. Weyn Bird hosted a trousseau tea for Colleen Bird prior to her marriage to Delmoine Hansen of Garden City Utah. The wedding was held at the Logan L D S Temple and a reception is planned for June 21 at Garden City hall with many guests bringing gifts.

Junior Essay Contest Winner Named in Rich County

Miss Margaret Alley of North Rich school was announced as the junior division winner in the American Legion Rich County Ladies Auxiliary essay contest on What It Means to be a Citizen of the United States. Alley is the 18 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Gerry Alley of South Hien Waketown and is noted as a helpful student.

Students and Faculty Honor Principal Grandy at Fielding High

On Wednesday June 5 Fielding High School students and staff gathered for a farewell party for Principal Weldon E Grandy and departing faculty. Student body president LaNae Hirach led the event with a program and gift presentation from Milas Hitachi. Grandy said he would treasure his memories of Fielding High as guests enjoyed hot dogs sodas and dancing.

A community barbecue picnic for the Rangers is planned at the Ee Lucite Picnic grounds on Saturday. The event is a pot luck gathering with organizers urging attendance for a friendly, social afternoon.

Weber College graduate earns nursing degree and music award

Aren Wamsley, Fielding High School 1955 alumna, received a nursing science degree from Weber College Ogden last Saturday and earned a music award. She belonged to Modern choir Massettes Weberettes drill team and will train in surgical nursing at Thomas Dee Hospital Ogden before employment.

Swim Course Ends At Bear Lake With Record Attendance

On Friday June 7 the Bear Lake Hot Springs venue closed a highly successful swimming course sponsored by the Paris Chapter American Red Cross. A record 270 persons registered, with special thanks to instructors Clenneth Arnell Effie Stock and Carol Ward, to operators Lorenzo Hemmert, and to parents who provided transportation.

Graduation Visit Ties Colorado State and Utah State

Mrs L Vallentine and Mrs Juanita Smart attended Colorado State University commencement in Fort Collins on Friday June 7 where Dr Rosas Smart received a veterinary medicine doctorate. Dr Smart and wife Darlene Vallentine then visited Paris before planning to move to Logan Utah where he will join the Utah State University veterinary science department.

Fielding High Principal Takes S L Position

Weldon E Grandy longtime Fielding High School principal in Paris leaves with Mrs Grandy and family for Salt Lake City. He has 26 years in education, served 18 years on city council, two terms as mayor, and is among 50 chemists chosen for a scholarship. He will teach in Salt Lake City High School system this coming term.

Former Paris Post publishers relocate to Denver area

Mr and Mrs Keith F Varner longtime publishers of The Paris Post depart with Mr and Mrs H B McCullough for the Denver area where they plan to reside. The Varner family says Paris will miss their community involvement as they prepare to move and visit Varner relatives in Nebraska before settling in Colorado.

Go South for Graduation Visit of Former Residents

Guests at Mrs Edna Bolton’s home included Mrs Walter Bolton and Mrs Andy Zamberlin from Corona California. On returning they were joined by Mrs Bolton and Misa Margie Bolton for weeks with relatives in the south. Russell Bolton son of Mrs Bolton graduated from the University of California Riverside. They visited Corona Torrance Santa Barbara and helped move the Walter Bolton family to a new home. Russell Bolton then stayed briefly with relatives in Paris on the return trip.

Open House Honors Garden City Couple

Open house Sunday June 9 in Garden City Utah celebrated Mr and Mrs Claude W Sprouse golden wedding anniversary. About 140 guests called to wish them happiness. A three tier cake and lace tablecloth centered the room with bouquets. Family attended except one daughter in law five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Children gave a swivel rocking chair and grandchildren an electric frying pan. A buffet dinner followed at Eldon Lewis home for 85 attendees with music reading and dancing to close the evening.

Free Swim Day for Red Cross Course Participants at Bear Lake

Farm Bureau Talk Meet and Talent Find Set for June 17

The St Charles Local Farm Bureau Talk Meet and Talent Fund will be held June 17 at 8 PM in the Bloomington Amusement hall. Robert Stocker son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Rich of Paris chosen by the American Legion of Paris to represent Fielding High School at Boys State in Boise June 9 to 15 attends the program with delegates from across Idaho. He is a junior who will return to Paris after June 15.

The retirement of Bishop James Transtrum and Counsellor Alfred Beetch of St. Thomas was celebrated with a square social last Friday. Bishop Booth presented tie clasps and cuff links to the retirees who thanked the Ward. Arlo Rasmus sen. led a program before a bonfire and weather roast to close the evening.

Fielding Senior Wins FFA Scholarship Award

Alfred Glen Humphreys of Fielding High School Paris was chosen by the Idaho FFA committee to receive a 300 dollar scholarship from Standard Oil Company of California. Glen, a high GPA student in a 40 member class, manages a project including cattle and hay, and has held office in several organizations.

Bear Lake Rangers Queen Contest Set For June 22

Bear Lake Rangers plan the queen contest for June 22 held with the Horses Show and Rodeo on July 3 and 4. Eligible contestants must live on the west side of the valley and be of high school age. Trophies will be awarded to the winners. A weiner roast for Ranger members and families follows.

Final plans confirm Bear Lake county 4 H members will travel by bus to Alpine Wyoming from June 19 to 22 for a four day camp. Rainbow trout planted across Southeast Idaho streams by Grace Hatchery

Idaho Department of Fish and Game announced the Grace Hatchery rainbow trout stocking across southeast Idaho waters. Services Held For 18 Month Old Viola Thornock

Funeral services were conducted Saturday for Viola Marie Thornock 18 months daughter of Mr and Mrs Verdon Thornock Bloomington. Viola drowned in an irrigation ditch near her home last Thursday while playing by the bank. The body was recovered within 20 minutes several hundred yards downstream. Burial followed at Bio cemetery with Ward chapel rites led by Bishop Jay Nelson. Pallbearers included Rulon Hansen Kent Hansen Thomas Thornock and Jay Kunz.

Cemetery Grounds at Liberty-Sharon to Be Beautified

A Liberty-Sharon committee led by Harold Pugmire will spend Saturday June 15 cleaning and beautifying the cemetery grounds. Local residents and neighbors with relatives buried there are urged to participate and assist in the effort.
