Four Injured In Head-On On Bear River Bridge

A head-on collision on the Bear River Bridge between Ovid and Montpelier at 7:25 a.m. injured four people. Verden Erickson and his wife both suffered shoulder injuries, their nephew Kyle sustained a chin cut, and Jackie Phillips endured two fractured vertebrae along with LaRue Phillips whose leg was severely injured. The Phillips party and Erickson were hospitalized at Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Verden Erickson was cited for failure to yield half the roadway.

New Idaho process cuts reactor fuel costs in lab test

Earl S. Grimmett of Idaho Nuclear Corp reports at the AIChE meeting in Salt Lake City on a fluidized bed based process developed at NRTS Idaho Chemical Processing Plant. The method converts spent fuel liquid products into uranium aluminide fuel directly in three steps using one equipment set, potentially saving time and transport costs.

Youth Injured In Wreck Near St Charles

Kenneth B. Cleveland 16 and Brent Cleveland 14 were on a gravel road north of St Charles when Kenneth lost control near a curve and the car rolled over. Kenneth, in a light jacket and swimming suit, was thrown onto gravel with lacerations and bruises. Brent was uninjured. Police investigator Ed Chadwell handled the case.

Paris Fender Bender Leaves Two Damaged Cars

At 8 20 p m in May a car driven by Leon Hborn collided with a truck driven by Van Nelson. Eborn failed to notice Nelson, causing the crash and $160 damage. State police issued Eborn a citation for following too closely.

Summer band program open to Valley students at Fielding High

Gynn Bennett music director at Fielding High School will run a summer band program for Paris and Montpelier students. Sessions begin June 12 with grade 9 students meeting Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. Grades 6 through 8 meet 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays in Paris. Buses will transport Montpelier students to Paris. Tuition is 310 payable by June 12. The course runs June 12 to July 7 then August 17 to 30. Contact Mr Bennett at 945 0544.

Wool Pool loading dates moved to June 19 and 20

Notice to wool growers announces Wool Pool loading dates rescheduled to Monday June 19 and Tuesday June 20 due to wet weather. Growers are asked to deliver wool to the warehouse on Monday and may store wet wool at the Union Pacific warehouse before loading. Ensure wool sacks are properly tied.

The State of Idaho names Gary Kunz of Bern as Bear Lake County Fire Warden. He will maintain a truck and pumper unit in the area and issue burning permits during the legal season. The shift from the Sheriff's Department to the Pres ton Fire Warden staff is noted.

Walter Lewis celebrates 94th birthday in Paris Valley open house

Walter H. Lewis, longtime resident born May 27, 1873, was honored with an open house at his Paris home. He helped build the Bear Lake Stake Tabernacle, powered Paris Canyon, drove teams, aided the printing press move, and worked in mining and construction before retiring at 82. He and Mary Ann raised seven children and numerous descendants, all paying tribute at the gathering.
