In a special city election in Paris on the liquor by the drink question, 111 voters turned out with 93 voting no and 13 voting yes. The result favored prohibition of sale by the drink.
Mrs Edna Goodwin of Santa Fe New Mexico announces the engagement of her daughter Hilleen to William G Lauritzen son of Mr and Mrs Wm Lauritzen of Paris The wedding is set for June 20 at the Lauritzen home in Paris Mrs Goodwin will not attend the ceremony but will accompany them as far as Phoenix Arizona on their trip to Paris.
Local and personal notes list numerous visitors and extended family trips. Families from Salt Lake Nampa Ogden Provo Logan and other Utah towns visited Paris and Laketown over Memorial and Decoration days.
A June to December schedule lists temple events for L D S Church at Lanark Sharon Ovid Paris St Charles and Liberty wards with six Quorums Elders and Bishop Amos Robinson presiding. The record records confirmations baptisms blessings testimonies music and closing prayers along with property leasing and stray animal control.
Lowell Shepherd of Paris and Harold Brewer of St Charles join 487 graduates at BYU in Provo Utah for the June 4 commencement. Shepherd and Brewer earned BS degrees, while Ezra Taft Benson delivered the address. Master’s degrees went to 21 candidates and 466 earned bachelor’s in various colleges. centennial Utah settlement note marked the event.
A trousseau tea at the home of Mr and Mrs Lee Prescott in Sharon on May 21 honored bride to be Marjean Prescott. Pink net dresses and pink and black frocks highlighted the event with Arlene Widmer in charge of the trousseau room and Gwen Miller overseeing the gift room.
Paris 1st Ward reports John Spencer led a prayer and Darlene Rich sang As the Dew From Heaven Distilling. Marlys Athay gave short talks with Jane and Sharpe Matthews. Baby Kristen Rich was blessed by grandfather Morgan J Rich. baby Marcile Grandy named by grandfather Emil Grandy. Benediction by John Fox.
Ronald Bird and Donald M. Budge of Paris are candidates for Master of Science degrees at the University of Idaho. Bird's thesis is The Economic Classification of Agricultural Land of Lewis County Idaho and Budge's Marketing Northern Idaho Alfalfa Hay. Seventy two graduates will be granted advanced degrees at the June commencement. John Grimmett of Paris was chosen to head the LDS Institute at the University of Idaho with Bruce Stucki as social chairman and Ross Smart as sergeant at arms.
MarJean Prescott daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Prescott of Shar and Grant L Freeman son of Mr and Mrs Marion Freeman of Garden City Utah were married May 28 in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City with Mr Freeman Mrs Prescott and Mr and Mrs Allan White of Salt Lake present. A Crown Room reception followed and the couple left for a honeymoon through southern Utah Arizona and Nevada before settling in Garden City.
Mr and Mrs Carl Finch and two daughters of Soda Springs visited Friday and Saturday with relatives. Mr and Mrs Newel Lewis and Mr and Mrs G H Bentsen of Montpelier returned from a two weeks coast states trip. Mr and Mrs Wm Thomas and family of Arimo visited at the Heber Price home Friday to Sunday. Mrs Ray McCammon of Georgetown was a Memorial Day visitor. Mrs Dave Bolton visited Montpelier Tuesday. Mr and Mrs Russell Nate and daughter Ann and son Harold of Salt Lake City spent the weekend at the Maria Cole home.

Vernon Rich of Ashton, veteran conservation officer and World War II Navy veteran, is named state co ordinator of federal aid wildlife restoration projects for Idaho. He replaces John J Boyle who resigns to join field conservation work. Rich starts June 1 and will oversee Pittman Robertson funds for big game birds and, pending congressional action, game fish.
A farewell for John R Price is planned for Tuesday June 10 in the Paris pavilion. Price is assigned to the California mission and will enter the Mission home in Salt Lake on June 16, with expected strong attendance.
Call 2541 for livestock trucking to market or other destinations. Christian Tueller Adeline Tuel ler and Mr Mrs Thos Cald well attended Mrs Geo West's funeral in Aston. John Hoge moved into Earl Bonham property. Bonhams relocate to Pocatello. Ray Haddock and children from Idaho Falls visited Darwin Haddock on Monday.
The Bishopric and Bloomington ward members host a reception for Mr and Mrs Eugene S Hart on their golden wedding anniversary Monday June 16 at 8 p m in the ward amusement hall. Relatives and friends from Bear Lake are invited. A short program will precede a dance and no gifts are requested.
Weldon E Grady explains his resignation from Bear Lake County Idaho School Superintendent role effective May 19 after reforms and consolidation laws raise duties. He notes salary remained at 100 dollars and cites inability to teach and lead full time. He offered to resign teaching for equal pay but was declined.
John Price and a companion spent Decoration Day at the Fred Price home. Visitors included Ezra Pausey of Ogden and a Portland family at Walter Bird and Merinda Sparks homes. A Rexburg visit by Eliza B. Cook and Memorial Day guests gathered at her home. Milford Rogers and family from Nampa visited locally. Elizabeth Rogers joined them to Paris. Provo and Rex visitors joined Eliza Cook’s Decoration Day weekend gathering.
Rhoda Eliza Hoge, 74, died Sunday after a week long illness. Born June 29, 1872 in Paris, she lived with Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith Hoge for 15 years. Surviving siblings include Mrs. Alfred Budge Boise and Mrs. Roy A. Welker Laramie, plus several Hogs. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Paris 2nd ward chapel, Bishop O. H. Grimmett presiding. Matthews Mortuary Montpelier handled arrangements. Interment in Paris city cemetery.
Local residents from Montpelier Logan Ogden and surrounding areas spent Memorial day visiting relatives and hosting guests. Families including Sparks Pendrey Allred Bolton Caldwell and Athay hosted and visited kin from Logan Ogden Preston Salt Lake and Bend with trips to Salt Lake City and a pageant in the city.
