Boy Struck by Speed Boat Injures Bear Lake Teen
A 13 year old Salt Lake City boy John Allen South was seriously injured when a motorboat struck him near Ideal Beach Bear Lake. He suffered deep lacerations and was taken to Bear Lake hospital in Montpelier where he was reported improving. The boat was operated by Larry Rigby age 15 of Montpelier who said glare from the sun blinded him as he towed another youth on water skis.

Bear Lake unit trains at Dugway Proving Grounds
The 835th Chemical Company (Maintenance) from Bear Lake County with HQ in Montpelier arrived at Dugway Proving Grounds on July 20 for a two week summer camp. Under 1st Lt. Douglas Henrie, the unit includes two Montpelier platoons and a Pocatello gas mask repair attachment, totaling 24 enlisted men and three officers. Capt. Dewayne Flanigan from the Pocatello area command serves as Army unit advisor.

The final Bureau of Reclamation land drawing for 384 farms on the North Side pumping project at Rupert will be held tomorrow starting at 1 30 p m. Floyd Hedrick says 125 names will be drawn from 6227 qualified applicant entries. This six draw program begun in 1952 has provided about 750 farms to veterans. Malad Youth Daniel Evans Drowned In Reservoir
The 18 year old Malad youth Daniel Leon Evans drowned Saturday afternoon while swimming with Ray Neil Jones. Skin divers from Ogden and Salt Lake recovered Evans about 45 feet down in Scrowther reservoir, which reaches 70 feet. A heavy wind blew as Jones swam with his companion who cried I cant move before going under. The body was recovered by diving clubs from Hill Air Force Base and Salt Lake City.
