Georgetown's 12th annual Pioneer Day on July 20 features a chuckwagon breakfast at 6 a.m., a children's parade at 10 a.m., Ward hall program at 11 a.m., a noon baseball game, and a 2 p.m. rodeo with bronc and bareback riding, calf roping, and steer riding. Proceeds go to the Georgetown Ward building fund with free admission for those over 65 and nominal fees for others.
A campaign to raise 200000 for a Tendoy Council Boy Scout Camp near Palisades Dam was launched with a first phase in Star Valley Wyoming. The site on Yeaman Creek two miles downstream from the dam will include a 4 acre lake, river canoeing, sailing on Palisades Reservoir, forested trails and many troop sites for year round use. The project envisions access for over 35000 boys and promotes philanthropy with a refrain it costs about the same as lending.
Grimmett Lumber and Hardware began building a 22 by 8 foot shed on West Center Street to ease storage issues for lumber cement and other materials. Owner Glenn Grimmett says the project costs about 4000 dollars and should be ready soon.
Applications are due Friday July 19 for the 1957 Idaho controlled hunts moose antelope bighorn sheep and mountain goats. Drawings on August 1 assign 1957 permits across multiple hunts with September and November dates and a total set of designated hunt numbers and permit counts.
Dennis Hirachi a 22 year old Geneva man drowned Sunday about 2 30 in a beaver pond on Giraffe creek eight miles north of Geneva He was part of a picnic party and apparently suffered sudden cramps while swimming in cold water Sheriff O E Monson Bear Lake county said the body was recovered by grappling hooks around 7 p m after draining the pond The water was about 10 feet deep His grandmother Mrs Freda Hirachi of Geneva and other Geneva and Montpelier friends attended the picnic Advertising is the life of business.
The Bear Lake County Farm Bureau Federation women’s group sponsors an annual Talk Meet and Talent Find on Monday July 29 at 4 PM in the Paris Second Ward chapel. Community winners eligible to participate urged to prepare. Miss Farm Bureau and two attendants to be chosen from contestants.
The report states that $50 denomination US savings bonds topped five month sales in 1957, with 758,000 pieces sold. $25 bonds remained near record pace, and Series E and H bonds statewide reached $660,701 push half yearly sales to $4,158,636. County Chairman A E Thiel of Montpelier notes high demand among small savers, and treasury guidance urges holding bonds older than two years for better returns.

The Joseph Irwin family reunion occurred in Laketown Last Saturday July 15 with the TK 2 program beginning at 10 in the Ward recreation hall.
The group elected officers for the next two years: William T Richards president, Ethel Irwin vice president, and John C Irwin Jr secretary. Activities at Wen dell Johnsons tacnie park included a dinner, white elephant sale, swimming, and visiting. An evening dance featured Sid Irwins orchestra with Darrell Lands trumpet, Charles I Alleys trombone, and Grace Reynolds piano.
Gregory Toone three year old son of Mr and Mrs Floyd Toone of Grace lost the tips off two fingers on his left hand when the mower caught them last week. Curtis Toone an older brother was putting the mower away against instruction when the accident occurred. The child was taken to Caribou County Hospital in Soda Springs for surgery on the injured fingers.
The Tendoy Council of the Boy Scouts of America covering southeastern Idaho Star Valley Wyoming and part of Utah was named among the 24 best councils at the 47th National Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge Pennsylvania. On hand to receive the award were Dr Merrill Sharp council president and Ben N Graham executive. Four troops from the Tendoy area attend the jamboree in Valley Forge.
Pfc Kent G Michel son of Mr and Mrs Wilford Michel of Paria recently completed the radio repair and maintenance course at Fort Knox Kentucky. He is assigned as an electrician to Camp Perry Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie.
The writer reports a weekend trip from Camp Perry to Kingaville in Canada by ferry. He describes Lake Erie as warm for swimming and says the new camp is fine and the work there enjoyable.
Homer Williams superintendent of Grace schools attended the National Federation of State High School Athletic and Activities Association convention in Miami from June 25 to 29. Williams, an executive committee member the past two years, was elected president for the coming year. The group includes delegates from every state except Texas, Alaska, Canada provinces, and Hawaii, which joined as new members this year. They met to form rules for high school activities. While away Williams and his family will tour eastern states.
Larry D Budge son of Colonel Vernon M Budge entered the United States Military Academy on July 2 1957 to begin a career as an Army officer He won the eighth presidential appointment in competition with hundreds of applicants The Hampton High School graduate was at Severn School Severna Park Md as a post graduate student for a year There he played football and lacrosse and served as student council president He had qualified for Naval Academy but chose West Point The Budges home is Paris but they live at Fort Monroe Va where Colonel Budge is budget officer of the Headquarters United States Continental Army Command
Bruce Bennett state highway engineer said a small right of way issue at Bennington holds up the relocation and construction of US Highway 30 North from Montpelier to west of Bennington Plans call for bidding the project by August to allow culverts and road base work this winter with full completion in 1958 Money is available for the Montpelier through Bennington section but funding for the Bennington to Georgetown hill gap will wait for next year’s appropriation

Voting by Fish Haven Ovid and Bennington residents showed strong opposition to closing local schools in Class A School District No. 383. Unofficial totals of 165 votes: 28 for discontinuance and 137 against cross the three communities. Fish Haven 59 votes 1 for 58 against Ovid 49 votes 12 for 37 against Bennington 57 votes 15 for 42 against.
Mr and Mrs Lamont Scofield of American Fork Utah and St Charles spent last week caring for property. Scofield was knocked to the ground by a lightning bolt while irrigating jets but recovered with no injuries or complications.
The Robert Price Family Association held its annual reunion at Lagoon Utah on July 6 with about 100 in attendance. Fred J Price president and Avard Booth chairman led a mid morning program of music tap dancing readings and genealogical reports. Afterward members dined at the Rose Terrace and spent the day renewing acquaintances at the resort.
