Gollaher Named Principal Of Fielding High

Max G Gollaher was elected principal of Fielding High School at a special trustees meeting. He replaces Weldon Grandy who resigned to teach at Granite High School Salt Lake City. Gollaher, a U S Logan graduate with BS and masters in education, has held multiple admin roles including district superintendent at Melba Idaho and principal positions in Oakley and Lincoln County Nevada.

Idaho Legion Convention Set for Lewiston July 20 24

The thirty ninth annual Idaho department convention of the American Legion will be held in Lewiston July 20 to 24 with Lewis Clark Post No 13 as host. All Idaho Legionnaires are invited to attend this all Idaho gathering for an enlightening meeting.

Milk Production in Idaho Reaches Record May Level

Idaho reports May milk production at 157 million pounds, about 2 percent above May 1956. Average milk cow productivity hits a record, aided by better breeds and favorable pasture conditions. Creamery butter output and American cheese rise, Swiss cheese and ice cream lag, while six month production trends stay above last year for butter and cheese but below for Swiss and ice cream. Prices for butterfat and whole milk show modest declines from April with May comparisons.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers Dedicate Marker in Emigration Canyon

The Daughters of Utah Pioneers Bear Lake County will dedicate a Pioneer Marker in Emigration Canyon after a short program at the Bear Lake Tabernacle on Saturday July 13 at 2 pm A tentative program includes music remarks a guest speaker and a dedicatory prayer with unveiling of the marker by Daughters Julia Bissigger and Clarissa Ward and presiding by President L Burdette Pugmire.

Mitchell to Substitute for Kerns in County Agent Office

Thomas Chester arranged temporary employment for Ladd Mitchell to substitute for Robert Kerns while Kerns attends summer school at Cornell University. Mitchell, a University of Idaho animal husbandry graduate and Mud Lake native, has a notable 4-H background and was among Idaho's first to join the International Farm Youth Exchange in 1954, with a Pakistan exchange stint.

Sharon Sells of Sunset Utah daughter of Mr and Mrs Dale Sells won a Northwestern University scholarship in debate and public speaking. She will study five weeks in speech at Northwestern in Chicago and return to Long Beach California to attend school this winter. She is granddaughter of Mrs Edith Whittington of Garden City. Her parents are former Garden City residents. Two grandsons of Mrs Sarah Hoge Walter Hoge and Thomas Bithell visited Blackfoot last week and returned home.

First Fourth of July in Bear Lake Colony

A 19th century Paris Utah narrative describes the first Fourth of July in the Bear Lake Colony. Alonzo Bingham leads a parade from Canyon Street to Main Street, with Orator Joseph C Rich delivering the address, a homemade flag raised on a pine pole, and a community feast, games, and dancing ending the celebratory day. The event honors loyalty to the nation and gratitude to the Giver of blessings.

Hansen Home Hosts Over 50 Guests for Weekend

Mr and Mrs Lloyd Hansen entertained more than fifty guests including out of town relatives and friends. Among the visitors were Jerrold Hansen and daughter of Pocatello Judy Hayes of Georgetown Patti and Robin Doman and Harley Hansen of Deer Lodge Montana. They shared breakfast at the Hansen home and dined at a local cafe.

Reserve Officers Cadet Training At Fort Lewis

More than 1380 ROTC cadets from colleges and universities across the western United States Hawaii and Alaska arrived at Fort Lewis Washington for a six week summer camp. Cadets will fire Army weapons learn their use in combat study heavy weapons drill and small unit tactics with emphasis on leadership under regular army officers and NCOs.

Paris Bear Lake Rangers host Fourth of July horse show and rodeo

The Tenth Annual Bear Lake Rangers event in Paris featured a large July 3–4 turnout with a horse show and rodeo. Festivities included a chuck wagon breakfast at Emerson school, a parade led by Queen Marie Ward, and a fireworks finale. Community members and families gathered for genealogy, concerts, and fellowships, with many residents visiting relatives.

Motor Vehicle Use Survey Expands to Bear Lake Area

Idaho officials announce the motor vehicle use survey will extend into Bear Lake and surrounding counties this week. Interviewers from the State Highway Department will operate mainly in Pocatello Blackfoot and Shelley with interviews also in Clifton Bannock Bear Lake Bingham Caribou Franklin Oneida and Power counties. Data collected support long range highway construction under the 1956 federal program and all respondent information remains confidential not used for taxation investigation or regulation.

Idaho University Adds Agricultural Management Course
