Charles Heber Lyon 67 of Liberty born August 13 1891 died Sunday January 12 after a stroke in San Bernardino California Funeral services were held January 16 in San Bernardino A son of John T Lyon and Hannah B Lyon he lived in Basalt Idaho Idaho Falls Totonia before moving to California 29 years ago He worked for the California State Highway Department 28 years Survived by widow Bert Messick two daughters three sons seven grandchildren and two sisters Pallbearers and mourners listed with attendees from Idaho and California Burial at Montecito Memorial Cemetery.
The Largilliere Bankers held their annual meeting on Tuesday January 14 in Soda Springs. E W Largilliere Jr was reelected president and O R Baum was elected as a new director and legal counsel. Directors named include Dr Allen Tigert H L Finch Frank Jouglard J O Wallace remains executive vice president with Phyllis Marriott as cashier and Paul Tipton as assistant cashier.
Announcement of the engagement of Miss Elaine Sleight to Edison F. Buckles. The bride-elect is the daughter of Karl Sleight and the late Mrs Blanche Sleight of Paris. The groom-to-be is the son of Mrs Olive Buckles of Salt Lake. An early fall wedding is planned.
The Emerson school Parent-Teacher Association hosts its regular January meeting tonight with a spirituality theme. Gilbert Hull of Bear Lake Seminary leads the program, and the Emerson school band under Vern Peterson will perform selections. Door prizes and refreshments will follow. the public is invited.
Idaho truck owners are warned about the federal use tax on highway motor vehicles. The tax targets single unit trucks weighing 18 000 pounds or more and truck tractors weighing 5500 pounds or more. Enacted in 1956 to fund nationwide highway construction, the levy continues with IRS information booklets and returns available at IRS offices.

Avery Wixom is charged with first degree murder in the January shooting death of Ernest White in Montpelier. White died at a Salt Lake City hospital after being wounded near his home on the way to work. Wixom, held without bail, pleaded not guilty and awaits further arraignment with time to consult an attorney.
On Thursday January 30 at p.m. the fire siren rang to announce, in Paris, the annual March of Dimes drive to fund polio research. Residents are urged to display lights and prepare cash for mothers visiting homes. Paris American Legion Auxiliary supports the drive and Lloyd-Passey of Rich Cafe donates coffee sale proceeds to the cause.
Bear Lake was officially declared frozen as of January 13 when the last open portion of the eight by twenty mile lake was covered by ice. The seal came after a 12 day stretch of sub-zero temperatures beginning December 31, with minus 1 to minus 15 degrees. The early freeze marks the earliest since 1951 52.
